Aortic Coarctation: Recent Developments in Experimental and Computational Methods to Assess Treatments for this Simple Condition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Coarctation of the aorta (CoA) is often considered a relatively simple disease, but long-term outcomes suggest otherwise as life expectancies are decades less than in the average population and substantial morbidity often exists.

Elastomeric Micro‐Balloons for Remote Control of Cerebral Blood Flow and Real‐Time In vivo Imaging of Rodent Brain Response to Hypoperfusion

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports the fabrication of MRI‐compatible elastomeric micro‐balloons via a multi‐step bubble casting process, where the monolithic elastomeric wall is selectively stiffened for reversible and controlled inflation and elasticity, depending on the target vessels for graded occlusion of cerebral arteries.

A Nano‐Interception Strategy for Chronic Heart Failure: Prussian Blue Nanoparticles Disrupt Fibroblast‐Immune Communication via CCL2 Sequestration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A nano‐interception strategy disrupts pathogenic fibroblast–macrophage crosstalk in chronic heart failure. Scalable Prussian blue nanoparticles selectively sequester CCL2 via ultrahigh‐affinity binding, preventing CCR2+ macrophage recruitment and breaking a key fibro‐inflammatory circuit. This approach demonstrates robust efficacy in murine and porcine

A modified technique of orthotopic transplant of the kidney in rabbits [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
In this study kidneys were harvested from bred-for-research cats weighing 4 to 5 kg. General principles of donor bilateral nephrectomy en bloc with aorta, vena cava, renal vessels, and ureters were followed.

Large‐Scale and Cost‐Effective Fabrication of Ultra‐Thin, Biodegradable Microelectrode Arrays and Pressure Sensors Using Laser Micromachining

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A mask‐free and cost‐effective UV‐pico‐second laser‐based microfabrication method is proposed to fabricate large‐area biodegradable microelectrode arrays and pressure sensors. These devices demonstrate low impedance, good conformability, excellent biocompatibility, and rapid degradation, providing a new route for next‐generation transient electronics ...

Phosphate overload via the type III Na-dependent Pi transporter represses aortic wall elastic fiber formation

open access: yesFujita Medical Journal
Objectives: Phosphate (Pi) induces differentiation of arterial smooth muscle cells to the osteoblastic phenotype by inducing the type III Na-dependent Pi transporter Pit-1/solute carrier family member 1.

REFERENCE VALUES OF AORTIC PULSE WAVE VELOCITY IN A LARGE HEALTHY POPULATION AGED BETWEEN 3 AND18 YEARS

open access: yesПедиатрическая фармакология, 2013
Objective: The measurement of aortic pulse wave velocity (PWVao) is an accepted marker in stratifying individual cardiovascular risk in adults. There is an increasing volume of evidence concerning impaired vascular function in different diseases in ...
