A stabbed aorta! [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Heart Journal, 2014
A 39-year-old multi-morbid skinny patient needed a permanent catheter implantation via the left jugular vein. After insertion of the sheath (S) pulsatile light-red blood-backflow was observed suggesting arterial injury. The sheath was left in place and the patient was referred to our centre.

Biologically‐Inspired Melt Electrowriting for the Generation of Highly Biomimetic Functional Myocardium

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, melt electrowriting is used to fabricate a 3D printed scaffold design that generates engineered cardiac tissues with in‐plane contraction, mimicking natural myocardium. It is shown that these tissues display advanced maturation and functionality.

A modified technique of orthotopic transplant of the kidney in rabbits [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
In this study kidneys were harvested from bred-for-research cats weighing 4 to 5 kg. General principles of donor bilateral nephrectomy en bloc with aorta, vena cava, renal vessels, and ureters were followed.

PERMANENT INTUBATION OF THE THORACIC AORTA

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Medicine, 1912
In a previous article I it was shown that a segment of vein could be grafted successfully on the thoracic aorta. While this procedure migh~ prove to be the ideal treatment of aneurysms on peripheral arteries, the extirpation of the aneurysmal sac and the

Alleviation of Aging‐Related Hallmarks in a Mouse Model of Progeria via a Nanoparticle‐Based Artificial Transcription Factor

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Oct4‐nanoscript, a biomimetic nanoparticle‐based artificial transcription factor, precisely regulates cellular rejuvenation by activating Oct4 target genes, restoring epigenetic marks, and reducing DNA damage. In a progeria model, it effectively rescued aging‐associated pathologies and extended lifespan.

Infiltrating Angiosarcoma of the Ascending, Arch and Descending Aorta Manifested as Acute Mesenteric Ischemia

open access: yesVascular Specialist International, 2021
Primary malignant aortic tumors are rare and aggressive. Most cases are diagnosed at advanced stages or during autopsies with a median overall survival of 8 months from diagnosis.

Association of Cystic Medial Necrosis of the Aorta and Undiagnosed Thyroiditis [Scripta Medica] [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
We have recently seen two patients with cystic medial necrosis of the aorta. The first patient died of a dissecting aneurysm of the thoracic aorta. At autopsy, classical Hashimoto’s thyroiditis was discovered.

Wall shear stress and flow patterns in the ascending aorta in patients with bicuspid aortic valves differ significantly from tricuspid aortic valves: a prospective study.

open access: yesEuropean Heart Journal-Cardiovascular Imaging, 2013
AIMS We compared flow and wall shear stress (WSS) patterns in the ascending aorta of individuals with either bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) or tricuspid aortic valve (TAV) using four-dimensional cardiovascular magnetic resonance (4D-CMR).

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...
