Compact plants reduce biological control of Myzus persicae by Aphidius colemani

Biological Control, 2013
Common horticultural practices, such as the use of plant growth regulators, may negatively influence the outcome of biological control programs. Plant growth regulators are applied to many ornamental and agricultural crops and can result in compact plants that have more branches and are bushier than untreated plants.

Host instar and host plant effects on Aphidius colemani

Journal of Applied Entomology, 2007
Abstract:  The effect of Myzus persicae age (I–IV instar nymphs) on parasitism by Aphidus colemani was investigated in choice experiments with either aubergine (Solanum melongena L.) or pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) as the aphid host plant species. Aphidius colemani could develop successfully to the mummy stage in all ages of aphid tested, on both pepper

Aqui reportamos a A.

Induction of a thelytokous reproduction in the Aphidius colemani (Hym., Aphidiidae) complex

Journal of Applied Entomology, 1988
AbstractA thelytokous parthenogenesis has been documented in the course of hybridization tests between three populations of the Aphidius colemani Viereck complex, collected in Southern Brazil, La Reunion Island and Southern France. This kind of parthenogenesis is rare in the family Aphidiidae and previously unreported in the genus Aphidius.

Temperature-dependent functional response of two aphid parasitoids, Aphidius colemani and Aphidius matricariae (Hymenoptera: Aphidiidae), on the cotton aphid

Journal of Pest Science, 2006
The functional response of two aphid parasitoids, Aphidius colemani Viereck and Aphidius matricariae (Haliday) (Hymenoptera: Aphidiidae), on the cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glover (Homoptera: Aphididae), was examined. Five constant temperatures (10, 15, 20, 25, and 30°C) and six host densities (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, and 64) were used during a 24-h period ...

The introduction and establishment of Aphidius colemani Viereck (Hym., Aphidiinae) in Tonga

Journal of Applied Entomology, 1994
AbstractIn this paper we describe the introduction and establishment of the polyphagous parasitoid Aphidius colemani into Tonga in an attempt to control the banana aphid, Pentalonia nigronervosa. P. nigronervosa is a serious pest of Musa spp. because of direct feeding damage and, more importantly, as a vector for banana bunchy top virus disease.

The impact of fluctuating thermal regimes on the survival of a cold‐exposed parasitic wasp, Aphidius colemani

Physiological Entomology, 2006
Abstract The impact of fluctuating thermal regimes on the cold tolerance of the parasitoid Aphidius colemani at the mummy stage is examined. The hypothesis is tested that, if a cold period is interrupted by a return to a higher temperature for a short time, a physiological

Regulation of wing formation and adult development in an aphid host, Aphis fabae, by the parasitoid Aphidius colemani

Journal of Insect Physiology, 2010
Nymphs of presumptive winged gynoparae of Aphis fabae (Hemiptera: Aphididae), were exposed to female parasitoids, Aphidius colemani (Hymenoptera: Aphidiidae) and stung once with the ovipositor. Wing development was inhibited and, when aphids were parasitised during the early stages, they did not reach the adult stage but mummies with rudimentary or no ...
