Measuring the field dispersal of Aphidius colemani (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) [PDF]

open access: yesAgriculture, Ecosystems & Environment, 2005
The spatial and temporal dispersal of the aphid parasitoid Aphidius colemani (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) was studied in the field. Dispersal was determined on the basis of mummified Myzus persicae (Hemiptera: Aphididae) aphids on kohlrabi trap plants. Trap plants were arranged equidistantly in circles at distances of 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16 m from a central ...

Molecular and morphological variability within theAphidius colemanigroup with redescription ofAphidius platensisBrethes (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Aphidiinae) [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of Entomological Research, 2014
AbstractWe have identified the following three taxa related to theAphidius colemanispecies group, which are important biological control agents:Aphidius colemani, Aphidius transcaspicusandAphidius platensis. Using partial sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I (mtCOI) gene and geometric morphometric analysis of the forewing shape ...

Impact of the entomopathogenic fungus Verticillium lecanii on development of an aphid parasitoid, Aphidius colemani [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2005
The parasitoid Aphidius colemani developed normally (approximately 90% adult emergence) when its cotton aphid (Aphis gossypii) host was treated with Verticillum lecanii conidia 5 or 7 days after parasitization. Fungus exposure 1 day before or up to 3 days after parasitization, however, reduced A. colemani emergence from 0 to 10%.

Distance‐dependent attraction of the generalist aphid parasitoid Aphidius colemani towards synthetic volatile organic compounds under greenhouse conditions

Entomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, 2023
Manipulation of insect foraging may provide the basis for effective insect pest control strategies. Recent laboratory and small‐scale greenhouse experiments have shown that a blend of styrene and benzaldehyde is attractive to some Aphidius parasitoids ...

Synergistic effects of Aphidius colemani (Hymenoptera: Aphidiidae) and Coccinella undecimpunctata (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) releases for the biological control of Diuraphis noxia in wheat fields

Biocontrol science and technology (Print), 2023
The Russian wheat aphid, Diuraphis noxia, is a significant pest for grain crops worldwide. Bioagents such as the parasitoid, Aphidius colemani and the predator, Coccinella undecimpunctata have been shown to be effective against many aphid species.

Application of Aphidius colemani Viereck for Control of the Aphid in Greenhouse

Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology, 2001
Abstract Parasitism of parasitoid Aphidius colemani Viereck in Rhopalosiphum padi and its control efficacy against green peach and cotton aphids were studied in greenhouse. The number of mummies was the highest in 1-day old nymphs and the lowest in 7-day old aphids.

Oviposition behaviour of the polyphagous aphid parasitoid Aphidius colemani Viereck (Hymenoptera: Aphidiidae)

Agriculture, Ecosystems & Environment, 1995
Abstract A population of Aphidius colemani Viereck imported from La Reunion successfully parasitized Aphis gossypii Glover, Myzus persicae Sulzer, Rhopalosiphum padi L., and Toxoptera aurantii Boyer de Fonscolombe in the laboratory. The parasitoid stung, but did not complete development in five other common aphid species.

Toxicity and sublethal effects of an insecticidal soap on Aphidius colemani (Hymenoptera: Braconidae)

Pest Management Science, 2008
AbstractBACKGROUND: The effects of an insecticidal soap on the survival, fitness and behaviour of an aphid parasitoid wasp, Aphidius colemani (Viereck), were studied in the laboratory. The LC50 (soap concentration causing 50% mortality 24 h after treatment) was determined.
