Compatible plant-aphid interactions: How aphids manipulate plant responses

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Biologies, 2010
To access phloem sap, aphids have developed a furtive strategy, their stylets progressing towards sieve tubes mainly through the apoplasmic compartment. Aphid feeding requires that they overcome a number of plant responses, ranging from sieve tube occlusion and activation of phytohormone-signalling pathways to expression of anti-insect molecules.

Developmental Rate and Longevity of \u3ci\u3eIllinoia Pepperi\u3c/i\u3e (Homoptera: Aphididae) on Excised Blueberry Leaf Disks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The aphid Illinoia pepperi is the vector of blueberry shoestring virus, a serious disease of cultivated high bush blueberry. We present a laboratory study of the developmental rate of I.

Capsicum chinense as an African traditional vegetable: Culture, resilience, and opportunity

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Capsicum chinense is central to everyday diets, cultural identity, and smallholder livelihoods across Sub‐Saharan Africa, yet remains overlooked in agricultural research and policy. This paper reframes C. chinense as a traditional, climate‐resilient vegetable shaped by centuries of farmer stewardship and cultural selection.

BOTRYTIS-INDUCED KINASE1 Modulates Arabidopsis Resistance to Green Peach Aphids via PHYTOALEXIN DEFICIENT41[W][OPEN]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 2014
Rapid HR-like cell death confers plant resistance to aphids. BOTRYTIS-INDUCED KINASE1 (BIK1) plays important roles in induced defense against fungal and bacterial pathogens in Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana).

Combined effects of canola plant density and insecticide management strategies on flea beetle abundance, canola defoliation, and yield across the Canadian prairies

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Increasing canola plant density reduced flea beetle abundance per plant and increased yield, independent of region or insecticide use, highlighting its potential as a component of integrated pest management. Abstract The crucifer flea beetle, Phyllotreta cruciferae (Goeze), and the striped flea beetle, Phyllotreta striolata (Fabricius) (Coleoptera ...

Aphid acceptance of Hordeum genotypes is affected by plant volatile exposure and is correlated with aphid growth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Nineteen genotypes of Hordeum vulgare were characterized as partially resistant or susceptible regarding growth of the bird cherry - oat aphid (Rhopalosiphum padi L.).

Transport engineering as a strategy to realize rapeseed's potential as a protein‐rich food

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
The heavily pesticide‐dependent rapeseed is an under‐utilized protein source for food owing to anti‐nutritional glucosinolates. Transport engineering technology may reduce glucosinolates in seeds while increasing defense in vegetative parts. Abstract Rapeseed is the world's second‐largest oilseed crop, and the low‐value press cake that remains after ...

First record of Takecallis taiwana (Takahashi) and T. arundinariae (Essig) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) in Colombia

open access: yesAgronomía Colombiana, 2016
The aphids Takecallis taiwana (Takahashi, 1926) and T. arundinariae (Essig, 1917) were collected from two locations in the Department of Cundinamarca (Colombia) and one location within 90 km of the city of Bogota on plants of the Phyllostachys sp ...
