Effects of bioinsecticide exposure route on aphids and their natural enemies in oilseed rape

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Fatty acids, silicone polymers and surfactants reduced aphid numbers but caused natural enemy mortality under direct exposure, while minimal residual activity suggests potential for targeted, compatible use in integrated pest management. Abstract BACKGROUND Myzus persicae Sulzer and Brevicoryne brassicae L.

Persistence and transgenerational effect of plant-mediated RNAi in aphids

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Botany, 2014
Highlight This work shows that the transgenerational effect of RNA interference in the green peach aphid Myzus persicae contributes to a 60% decline in aphid population growth.

Farmers' Awareness and Use of IPM for Soybean Aphid Control: Survey Results for the 2004, 2005, and 2006 Crop Years [PDF]

open access: yes
In response to the introduction and rapid spread of soybean aphid as a major new invasive pest of soybean in North America, farmers who attended winter crop meetings in four states in North Central US were surveyed about their treatment of and knowledge ...

Rhizobacteria regulate colonising Sitobion avenae aphid populations through induced host resistance and alter plant volatiles promoting early parasitoid recruitment on barley (Hordeum vulgare)

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Rhizobacterial inoculation of barley reduced Sitobion avenae populations by inducing plant resistance and modifying volatiles that attracted parasitoid wasps earlier, enhancing both bottom‐up and top‐down pest control. Abstract BACKGROUND Soil rhizobacteria can enhance crop resistance to insect herbivores and influence higher trophic interactions ...

Capacity of earwig Marava arachidis (Yersin) to access fennel plants Foeniculum vulgare Mill in laboratory and field Capacidade da tesourinha Marava arachidis (Yersin) em acessar a planta de erva-doce Foeniculum vulgare Mill no laboratório e no campo

open access: yesCiência Rural, 2007
This research was aimed at obtaining data about earwig behavior (Marava arachidis Y.) on fennel agro-ecosystems and evaluating its potential capacity to access plants in the absence of aphids under laboratory and field conditions.

RNA interference in crop protection: opportunities and challenges during the transition to commercialization

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
RNA interference (RNAi) technologies, host‐induced gene silencing (HIGS) and spray‐induced gene silencing (SIGS), potentially offer sustainable crop protection. However, efficacy, costs, regulatory clarity, and socio‐environmental impacts require further evaluation for broader use.

Notes on \u3ci\u3eHyadaphis Foeniculi\u3c/i\u3e and Redescription of \u3ci\u3eHyadaphis Tataricae\u3c/i\u3e (Homoptera: Aphididae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The occurrence of Hyadaphis foeniculi in North America is discussed and a list of its synonyms in the North American literature is presented. H. tataricae is redescribed and a key to separate the two is given along with comparative drawings and photo ...

HvarAKR1B1‐mediated tolerance in Hippodamia variegata: Deciphering the metabolic adaptation and fitness costs under prolonged starvation

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Starvation stress significantly affected the growth and development of Hippodamia variegata. Combined transcriptome and metabolome analysis and RNA interference verification revealed that HvarAKR1B1 may be involved in the response of Hippodamia variegata to starvation stress.

Fortifying crop defenses: unraveling the molecular arsenal against aphids

open access: yesHorticulture Advances
Aphids cause enormous financial losses to various crop plants on a global scale. Moreover, aphids are vectors for many plant viral diseases that can further hasten crop yield losses.

Infestation of Aphids in Tomato Plantations After Application of Tobacco Leaves Mixtures With Other Botanical Insecticides

open access: yesJERAMI
Pest attacks are still a major problem in tomato cultivation. Aphids are one of the main pests of tomatoes. The main symptoms of aphids on tomatoes are stunted plants, distorting leaves and stems, and causing necrotic spots.
