Plasma proteome correlates of lipid and lipoprotein: biomarkers of metabolic diversity and inflammation in children of rural Nepal. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Proteins involved in lipoprotein metabolism can modulate cardiovascular health. While often measured to assess adult metabolic diseases, little is known about the proteomes of lipoproteins and their relation to metabolic dysregulation and underlying ...

Biomaterial Strategies for Targeted Intracellular Delivery to Phagocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Phagocytes are essential to a functional immune system, and their behavior defines disease outcomes. Engineered particles offer a strategic opportunity to target phagocytes, harnessing inflammatory modulation in disease. By tuning features like size, shape, and surface, these systems can modulate immune responses and improve targeted treatment for a ...

Deficiency of ABCA1 Impairs Apolipoprotein E Metabolism in Brain*

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2004
ABCA1 is a cholesterol transporter that is widely expressed throughout the body. Outside the central nervous system (CNS), ABCA1 functions in the biogenesis of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), where it mediates the efflux of cholesterol and phospholipids ...

Bioprinted Micro‐Clots for Kinetic Analysis of Endothelial Cell‐Mediated Fibrinolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 7, March 14, 2025.
This paper describes the development of a microscale model that quantifies the breakdown of fibrin by endothelial cells. The small size scale of this engineered system enables fibrin breakdown to be observed without the addition of external activators. This system could help in identifying compounds which both promote and hinder thrombosis.

Plasma Apolipoprotein Levels Are Associated with Cognitive Status and Decline in a Community Cohort of Older Individuals

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Objectives Apolipoproteins have recently been implicated in the etiology of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). In particular, Apolipoprotein J (ApoJ or clusterin) has been proposed as a biomarker of the disease at the pre-dementia stage.

Apolipoprotein E and Atherosclerosis: From Lipoprotein Metabolism to MicroRNA Control of Inflammation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Apolipoprotein (apo) E stands out among plasma apolipoproteins through its unprecedented ability to protect against atherosclerosis. Although best recognized for its ability to mediate plasma lipoprotein clearance in the liver and protect against ...

Novel Less Toxic, Lymphoid Tissue‐Targeted Lipid Nanoparticles Containing a Vitamin B5‐Derived Ionizable Lipid for mRNA Vaccine Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 7, March 14, 2025.
The top‐performing lipid nanoparticle, incorporating a novel ionizable lipid derived from vitamin B5, demonstrates high mRNA transfection efficiency, low toxicity, favorable stability, targeted delivery to lymphoid tissues, and high immunogenicity, showing promise as a carrier for mRNA vaccines for infectious diseases and cancer.

A common Hpa I RFLP of apolipoprotein C-I increases gene transcription and exhibits an ethnically distinct pattern of linkage disequilibrium with the alleles of apolipoprotein E

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1999
Apolipoprotein (apo) C-I is a constituent of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (TGRL) that interferes with their hepatic clearance. Functional polymorphism in the apoC-I gene has not been established.
