Investigation on the Influence of Protein Corona and Platelet Adhesion on Storage Bag Surface on the Platelet Storage Lesion

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Platelet quality deteriorates during storage due to protein and platelet adhesion to current bag materials. Here, polymer coatings are identified that reduce adhesion and translated them to mini‐storage bags. Platelet quality are not impacted, despite significantly reducing adhesion.

Apolipoprotein C3 facilitates internalization of cationic lipid nanoparticles into bone marrow-derived mouse mast cells

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Mast cells (MCs), are hematopoetically-derived secretory immune cells that release preformed as well as de novo synthesized inflammatory mediators in response to activation by several stimuli.

Nanoparticles-cell association predicted by protein corona fingerprints [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In a physiological environment (e.g., blood and interstitial fluids) nanoparticles (NPs) will bind proteins shaping a "protein corona" layer. The long-lived protein layer tightly bound to the NP surface is referred to as the hard corona (HC) and encodes ...

Coagulation Matters: ATIII‐Enriched Biomolecular Corona Enhances the Hemocompatibility of PEG Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Engineering of a functional protein corona with a synergistic heparin‐ATIII complex significantly improves hemocompatibility of PEG nanoparticles. Through deliberate engineering of the protein corona, a 4‐fold reduction in coagulation activation (F1 + 2) without inducing adverse thromboinflammatory reactions (CD11b, C5a) is achieved without disrupting ...

Reengineering Endogenous Targeting Lipid Nanoparticles (ENDO) for Systemic Delivery of mRNA to Pancreas

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
ENDO lipid nanoparticles containing cholecalciferol as a fifth component demonstrate mRNA delivery to the pancreas with 99% selectivity, including beta cells. This platform shows minimal toxicity and sustained protein expression for up to 3 days in a dose‐dependent manner, offering a novel approach to pancreas‐specific mRNA delivery and gene therapy ...

Amyloid-β Peptide-targeting Immunotherapy in Alzheimer Disease: A Systematic Review of Clinical Studies [PDF]

open access: yesCaspian Journal of Neurological Sciences
Background: Amyloid-β (Aβ) peptide accumulation in the brain is a pathological hallmark of Alzheimer disease (AD). Because of the relationship between the Aβ plaque formation and AD progression, targeting Aβ has been advocated as a treatment strategy for

Comparison of efficacy of intensive versus mild pitavastatin therapy on lipid and inflammation biomarkers in hypertensive patients with dyslipidemia.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
ObjectiveIntensive as compared to mild statin therapy has been proven to be superior in improving cardiovascular outcome, whereas the effects of intensive statin therapy on inflammation and lipoprotein biomarkers are not well defined.MethodsThis study ...

ApoC-III and visceral adipose tissue contribute to paradoxically normal triglyceride levels in insulin-resistant African-American women [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background: African-Americans are more insulin-resistant than whites but have lower triglyceride (TG) concentrations. The metabolic basis for this is unknown. Our goal was to determine in a cross-sectional study the effect of insulin resistance, visceral
