A novel mechanism of cell growth regulation by Cell Cycle and Apoptosis Regulatory Protein (CARP)-1

open access: yesJournal of Molecular Signaling, 2010
CARP-1/CCAR1, a perinuclear phospho-protein, regulates signaling by adriamycin, steroids, or growth factors. However, intracellular events that regulate CARP-1-dependent cell growth are not fully understood. Here we investigated whether CARP-1 is involved in signaling induced by the protein kinase A inhibitor H89. Treatments of human breast cancer cells

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

Targeting C-terminal binding proteins (CtBPs) using genetic selection

open access: yes, 2011
There are many protein-protein interactions that are vital for cellular processes such as signal transduction, structural organisation and apoptosis. In this study we decipher the role of the protein-protein interaction of C terminal Binding Proteins ...

Cellular stress responses: cell survival and cell death [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Cells can respond to stress in various ways ranging from the activation of survival pathways to the initiation of cell death that eventually eliminates damaged cells.

Heat shock transcription factor 2 reduces mitochondrial pathway apoptosis in intestinal epithelial cells by inhibiting the increase in mitochondrial membrane permeability in ulcerative colitis.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
The destruction of intestinal mucosal mechanical barrier homeostasis caused by excessive apoptosis of intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) is an important reason for the occurrence and development of ulcerative colitis (UC).

Plant caspase-like proteins: from function identification to application in winter rapeseed genetic breeding

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Plant programmed cell death (PCD) shares striking similarities with animal apoptosis in both morphological and biochemical characteristics, yet plant genomes lack genuine orthologs of animal caspases.

Adaptor protein CIN85 potentiates the motility of osteosarcoma cells via the Akt/mTOR and MMP2‐COL3A1 axis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CIN85 is highly expressed in osteosarcoma, particularly in metastatic lesions. Its overexpression increases cell migration and Matrigel invasion, while silencing CIN85 suppresses these behaviors. Transcriptome analysis shows that CIN85 regulates MMP2, COL3A1, and Akt/mTOR signaling. Targeting these pathways reverses CIN85‐induced motility, highlighting

Cell cycle regulatory proteins and apoptosis in B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

open access: yesHaematologica, 2002
The pathogeny of B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL) involves both deregulated proliferation and inhibition of cell death. A particular role in the regulation of these phenomena is played by proteins involved in early G1 phase regulation: pRb kinases: cyclin-dependent kinases (cdk): cdk4 and cdk6 activated by cyclins D, and universal cdk ...

Proteasome inhibitor, ixazomib prevents topoisomerase‐I degradation and reverses irinotecan resistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ixazomib inhibits proteasome‐mediated degradation of topoisomerase I induced by irinotecan, thereby restoring drug sensitivity and promoting tumor cell death in colorectal cancer. Irinotecan, a topoisomerase I (topoI) inhibitor, is widely used for colorectal cancer, but resistance remains a major clinical challenge.

Activation and modulation of antiviral and apoptotic genes in pigs infected with classical swine fever viruses of high, moderate or low virulence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The immune response to CSFV and the strategies of this virus to evade and suppress the pigs’ immune system are still poorly understood. Therefore, we investigated the transcriptional response in the tonsils, median retropharyngeal lymph node (MRLN), and ...
