Structured machine learning modeling to support conservation of deep‐sea benthic biodiversity

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 4, August 2026.
Abstract Biodiversity monitoring programs need to deliver accurate, timely, and actionable predictions. To establish a predictive monitoring program for deep‐sea benthos of the Santos Basin, Brazil, we developed a two‐stage structured model that allowed comparison of biodiversity predictions obtained from environmental simulations (2M‐Sim).

Regulatory compliance and support for altered management of the exotic pet trade

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 4, August 2026.
Abstract Globally, the exotic pet trade has contributed to species invasion, disease, and animal welfare risks. Although scientists have advocated for increased trade regulation, the success of management and regulatory efforts depends on compliance by participants in the exotic pet trade. We used a regulatory compliance framework to investigate exotic

Spatial identification of areas suitable for other effective area‐based conservation measures in the European Union

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 4, August 2026.
Abstract Although significant biodiversity has been safeguarded by protected areas (PAs), biodiversity trends continue downward. Within the frameworks of the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 and the new EU Restoration Regulation (2024), conserving critical biodiversity areas is essential.

How identity bias affects perceptions of conservation messages on social media

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 4, August 2026.
Abstract Public support is essential for conservation, as public opinion can influence decision‐making and policy. From community care to corporate category: Platforms' discourse on digital trans‐affirming practices

open access: yesJournal of Linguistic Anthropology, Volume 36, Issue 2, August 2026.
Abstract Trans‐affirming community movements have interfaced with tech platforms in recent decades, leading to innovations in pronoun‐sharing online. As (mostly US‐based) platforms created online “pronouns fields,” they released supportive statements and help pages about the feature. How Fear of Domination Affects Public Support for International Organizations: A Conjoint Experiment Approach

open access: yesPolitics &Policy, Volume 54, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT We theorize the notion of “fear of domination” and argue that people rely on a series of realist heuristics to gauge their support for an IO. Based on realist thinking, we hypothesize that individuals are less likely to support IOs that are subject to domination or manipulation.
