Structure‐forward targeting of claudins with synthetic binders
Claudins form the paracellular barriers between epithelial and endothelial tissues at tight junctions and are targets for molecular binders with the goal of modulating barrier permeability. Claudin‐binding molecules are relevant in drug delivery or in altering claudin interactions with disease‐causing proteins.

Degree of Dietary Refinement Alters Apparent Gut Permeability
Previous studies in our lab showed less refined diets reduced gut permeability (GI‐p) as assessed by 4hr plasma FITC‐dextran (FITC‐d) concentration in conjunction with reduced adiposity. To determine if degree of dietary refinement altered gut health and lipoprotein biology, we conducted a 14 week feeding trial in which weanling ...

The microbiome in human skin aging
Age‐related skin changes encompass the well‐known visible phenotypic alterations, together with microbiome dysbiosis and a series of molecular aging hallmarks. These hallmarks characterize not only a fully stablished aged phenotype but also the skin aging process itself.

Permeability has an important effect on drug absorption. In this study, the effect of different concentrations of sodium sulfobutyl ether-β-cyclodextrin (SBE-β-CD) on the absorption of ranitidine was investigated to examine the mechanism of permeability ...

This review focuses on the role of autophagy and mitophagy in maintaining pancreatic β‐cell function and homeostasis. We discuss how genetic defects affecting these pathways contribute to the development of type 1, type 2, monogenic, and gestational diabetes. We further explore their potential as therapeutic targets. Created in BioRender.

Effects of porosity and inertia on the apparent permeability tensor in fibrous media [PDF]
The flow in three-dimensional fibrous porous media is studied in the inertial regime by first simulating for the motion in unit, periodic cells, and then solving successive closure problems leading – after applying an intrinsic averaging procedure – to the components of the apparent permeability tensor.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
