Fungicide Non‐Target Effects Cause Reduced Sawfly Herbivory in Treated and Neighbouring Strawberry Plants

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
Application of the fungicide Switch 62.5 WG in garden strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa), targeting Botrytis cinerea, reduced sawfly (Cladius spp.) herbivory by up to 94% and improved fruit quality. This non‐target effect also spilled over to neighbouring untreated plants, lowering damage by 46%.

Rearing Istocheta aldrichi (Diptera: Tachinidae) From Field‐Collected Japanese Beetles (Popillia japonica): 2. Methods to Improve Overwintering, Adult Emergence and Longevity

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
Successful rearing of Istocheta aldrichi, a tachinid parasitoid of invasive Japanese beetle, depended on conditions before, during, and after overwintering. Longer cold exposure increased adult emergence and accelerated post‐diapause development. Early transfer of puparia to cool conditions improved survival, while spring temperature manipulation ...

The reaction of some apple rootstocks to biocontrol of white root rot Rosellinia necatrix by Trichoderma harzianum in greenhouse

open access: yesJournal of Crop Protection, 2020
Three Trichoderma harzianum isolates, were evaluated for their antagonistic effect on Rosellinia necatrix causal agent of white root rot (WRT). According to in vitro evaluations, T. harzianum T20A isolate showed the most pathogen growth inhibition.

Tachinidae (Diptera) as Floral Visitors and Pollinators in Natural and Managed Systems

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
We review the roles of bristle flies (Tachinidae) as pollinators in natural and managed systems. We find that most tachinid genera visit flowers and that floral‐adapted mouthparts have evolved repeatedly many times in the family. We review patterns of floral specificity and assess the efficacy of tachinids as pollinators with case studies.

Safety and Utility of Smartphone‐Based Heart Monitors in Pediatric Patients With Cardiovascular Implantable Electronic Devices

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, EarlyView.
Smartphone heart monitors in pediatric CIEDs: A pilot study. Smartphone heart monitors did not induce EMI in children with CIEDs, enabling reliable heart rate measurement and accurate identification of ventricular non‐captures. ABSTRACT Background Portable heart monitors enable on‐demand electrocardiogram (ECG) recordings and enhance symptom‐rhythm ...

Hydromulches in Organic Strawberry Production: Effects on Densities of Insect Pests and Natural Enemies

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Liquid‐sprayable cellulose hydromulches (HM) are alternatives to plastic polyethylene (PE) mulches for weed suppression in organic agriculture. However, their impact on arthropod pests and natural enemies remains unexplored. Various HMs made of shredded newsprint, water and guar gum were compared against white‐on‐black PE mulch, paper sheet ...

Identification of Multiple Diseases in Apple Leaf Based on Optimized Lightweight Convolutional Neural Network

open access: yesPlants
In this study, our aim is to find an effective method to solve the problem of disease similarity caused by multiple diseases occurring on the same leaf. This study proposes the use of an optimized RegNet model to identify seven common apple leaf diseases.
