Enhanced Disease Detection for Apple Leaves with Rotating Feature Extraction

open access: yesAgronomy
Leaf diseases such as Mosaic disease and Black Rot are among the most common diseases affecting apple leaves, significantly reducing apple yield and quality. Detecting leaf diseases is crucial for the prevention and control of these conditions.

Storying Multispecies‐Life‐and‐Death: Becoming‐Grief‐Able in Educational Spaces for Post‐Necrocene Futures

open access: yesChildren &Society, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We situate this article from/with/in the Necrocene, a geological period marked by the systematic production of human and more‐than‐human death to an extent that ecological destruction, extinction, loss and harm have become a structural feature of modern life.

Apple leaf disease severity grading based on deep learning and the DRL-Watershed algorithm

open access: yesScientific Reports
Apple leaf diseases significantly impair the photosynthetic efficiency and growth quality of apple trees, leading to reduced fruit yields. Existing methods for disease detection and severity classification struggle to quickly and accurately segment and ...

Immersive virtual reality arm exercise, physical activity, and cardiometabolic health in cerebral palsy: A phase 1 trial

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, EarlyView.
In this pilot randomized trial, 32 young people with cerebral palsy used seated, telehealth‐delivered virtual reality exergaming for 12 weeks. Participants averaged 144 minutes per week of exercise and self‐reported physical activity increased by up to 166%, with favorable early changes in insulin (−45%) and triglycerides (−20%), while a waitlist ...

Use of homologous and heterologous gene expression profiling tools to characterize transcription dynamics during apple fruit maturation and ripening [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background Fruit development, maturation and ripening consists of a complex series of biochemical and physiological changes that in climacteric fruits, including apple and tomato, are coordinated by the gaseous hormone ethylene.

Oleanolic Acid‐Enriched Olive Oil Attenuates Kidney Function Decline in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes: Results From the OLTRAD Randomised Controlled Trial

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), driven in part by oxidative stress and the accumulation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs). Oleanolic acid (OA), a natural triterpene present in olive‐derived matrices, may modulate AGE metabolism.

BLSENet: A Novel Lightweight Bilinear Convolutional Neural Network Based on Attention Mechanism and Feature Fusion Strategy for Apple Leaf Disease Classification

open access: yesJournal of Food Quality
Accurate identification of apple leaf diseases is of great significance for improving apple yield. The lesion area of the apple leaf disease image is small and vulnerable to background interference, which easily leads to low recognition accuracy.

The Importance of the Larval Parasitoid Actia interrupta (Diptera: Tachinidae) in Low Density Eastern Spruce Budworm Populations

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
Actia interrupta is an important larval tachinid parasitoid during low‐density populations of the eastern spruce budworm. In the late 1980s during the outbreak collapse, Meteorus trachynotus was initially the most important species, but was replaced by A. interrupta. Host patch size and density had no impact on the parasitism rates by A.

YOLO-ACT: an adaptive cross-layer integration method for apple leaf disease detection

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Apple is a significant economic crop in China, and leaf diseases represent a major challenge to its growth and yield. To enhance the efficiency of disease detection, this paper proposes an Adaptive Cross-layer Integration Method for apple leaf disease ...

Fungicide Non‐Target Effects Cause Reduced Sawfly Herbivory in Treated and Neighbouring Strawberry Plants

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
Application of the fungicide Switch 62.5 WG in garden strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa), targeting Botrytis cinerea, reduced sawfly (Cladius spp.) herbivory by up to 94% and improved fruit quality. This non‐target effect also spilled over to neighbouring untreated plants, lowering damage by 46%.
