On Numerical methods for determination of Earth gravity field model using mass satellite gravity gradiometry data

open access: yesGeodesy and Geodynamics, 2012
On the basis of Space-Wise Least Square method, three numerical methods including Cholesky decomposition, pre-conditioned conjugate gradient and Open Multi-Processing parallel algorithm are applied into the determination of gravity field with satellite ...

Mapping quantitative trait loci and identification of genes that control fatness in poultry

open access: yes, 2002
Chicken genomics has benefited from the rapid technological advances in the genomics of model organisms and man. A number of resources and approaches are now well established, in the chicken, including genetic markers and maps (both genetic and physical),

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Innovative methods for soil parent material mapping [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Soil parent material exerts a fundamental control on many environmental processes. Nevertheless, resulting from the separate mapping programmes of the geological and soil surveys, parent material is currently poorly mapped in the United Kingdom.

Robust 3D-Mapping with Time-of-Flight Cameras

open access: yes, 2009
Time-of-Flight cameras constitute a smart and fast technology for 3D perception but lack in measurement precision and robustness. We present a comprehensive approach for 3D environment mapping based on this technology.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Poverty Estimation Using a ConvLSTM-Based Model With Multisource Remote Sensing Data: A Case Study in Nigeria

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
Poverty is a global challenge, the effects of which are felt on the individual to national scale. To develop effective support policies to reduce poverty, local governments require precise poverty distribution data, which are lacking in many areas.
