Operator methods applied to special functions [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Mathematics and Information Sciences 9, No. 3, 1283-1289 (2015), 2014
Based on operator algebras commonly used in quantum mechanics some properties of special functions such as Hermite and Laguerre polynomials and Bessel functions are derived.

Finding meaningful and workable applied mathematics problems in science [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
In this short review, I will summarize my research experience in three fields in applied mathematics: mathematical biology, applied probability, and applied discrete mathematics. Specifically, I will show how each project was initiated, and what wrong approaches were applied. Such details are important in learning how to do research, but they cannot be

Calculus of variations with fractional derivatives and fractional integrals [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Mathematics Letters 22 (2009) 1816--1820, 2009
We prove Euler-Lagrange fractional equations and sufficient optimality conditions for problems of the calculus of variations with functionals containing both fractional derivatives and fractional integrals in the sense of Riemann-Liouville.

Mathematical modeling for sustainability: How can it promote sustainable learning in mathematics education? [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
This article reviews the current state of teaching and learning mathematical modeling in the context of sustainable development goals for education at the tertiary level. While ample research on mathematical modeling education and published textbooks on the topic are available, there is a lack of focus on mathematical modeling for sustainability.

The power of microRNA regulation—insights into immunity and metabolism

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
MicroRNAs are emerging as crucial regulators at the intersection of metabolism and immunity. This review examines how miRNAs coordinate glucose and lipid metabolism while simultaneously modulating T‐cell development and immune responses. Moreover, it highlights how cutting‐edge artificial intelligence applications can identify miRNA biomarkers ...

Applied Philosophy in Mathematics [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
We show a possibility to apply certain philosophical concepts to the analysis of concrete mathematical structures. Such application gives a clear justification of topological and geometric properties of considered mathematical objects.

Detecting homologous recombination deficiency for breast cancer through integrative analysis of genomic data

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study develops a semi‐supervised classifier integrating multi‐genomic data (1404 training/5893 validation samples) to improve homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) detection in breast cancer. Our method demonstrates prognostic value and predicts chemotherapy/PARP inhibitor sensitivity in HRD+ tumours.

Understanding and measuring mechanical signals in the tumor stroma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review discusses cancer‐associated fibroblast subtypes and their functions, particularly in relation to extracellular matrix production, as well as the development of 3D models to study tumor stroma mechanics in vitro. Several quantitative techniques to measure tissue mechanical properties are also described, to emphasize the diagnostic and ...

Experimental Mathematics and Mathematical Physics [PDF]

open access: yesContemp. Math. 517 (Amer. Math. Soc., 2010), 41--58, 2010
One of the most effective techniques of experimental mathematics is to compute mathematical entities such as integrals, series or limits to high precision, then attempt to recognize the resulting numerical values. Recently these techniques have been applied with great success to problems in mathematical physics. Notable among these applications are the
