Establishing an Apheresis Medicine Program in a Resource‐Constrained Setting: A 5‐Year Experience From Lagos, Nigeria

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Establishing a comprehensive apheresis medicine program in a resource‐constrained setting presents significant structural, financial, and logistical challenges. Despite the growing clinical importance of apheresis services globally, published experience from sub‐Saharan Africa remains sparse.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Statistical microdamage mechanics and damage field evolution

open access: yes, 2001
Discussed are the underlying background of statistical microdamage mechanics, the fundamental partial differential equation of evolution of microdamage number density, two basic solutions, and the saturation of microdamage number density evolution ...

An Analytical Solution for Static Problems of Cantilever Curved Beams with Variable Cross Sections

open access: yesInternational Journal of Engineering and Management Sciences, 2021
This paper gives an analytical method to obtain the deformation of a cantilever curved beam. The curved beam considered has circular centre line and the thickness of the cross section in radial direction depends on the circumferential coordinate.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Design Principles for Deployable Fibers Inspired by Hagfish Defense

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Hagfish produce extraordinary slime as a defense mechanism, releasing exudate from glands that rapidly form a fibrous, soft, ultra‐dilute, water‐capturing network upon contact with seawater (up to 10 000 times its original volume). The gland thread cell (

Torsion of Truncated Hollow Spherical Elastic Body

open access: yesInternational Journal of Engineering and Management Sciences, 2021
This paper deals with the torsion of a body of rotation whose shape is a truncated hollow sphere. The material of the truncated hollow sphere is isotropic, homogeneous and linearly elastic.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Comparison of Flow field in the proximity of A Single Planar & Wrap-around Fin

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace, 2019
This paper analyses the results of the computational analysis between a single planar and a wrap-around fin mounted on a semi-cylindrical body. A free-stream Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model was simulated for both cases in the Mach 0.4-3.0M range
