Disrupting BMP/TGF‐β Signaling: Modulation of AQP1 and TGFB1 in Human Pulmonary Microvascular Endothelial Cells

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 15, Issue 6, December 2025.
Evaluation of targeted gene silencing and exogenous BMP9 administration in HPMECs. AQP1 silencing decreased TGFB1, TGFBR1, and BMPR2 expression, while BMP9 administration returned TGFB1 to basal levels. TGFB1 silencing upregulated BMP9, while downregulating BMP10 and BMPR2 expression. BMP9 administration downregulated AQP1 expression.

Selective Deletion of NBCe1 in Reactive Astrocytes Attenuates Ischemic Stroke Brain Damage

open access: yesGlia, Volume 73, Issue 12, Page 2386-2406, December 2025.
Main Points NBCe1 is upregulated in reactive astrocytes following ischemic stroke. Deletion of astrocytic Nboe1 reduces stroke volume, preserves AQP4 polarization, reduces BBB permeability, and improves neurological function after ischemic stroke. ABSTRACT The electrogenic sodium bicarbonate transporter 1 (NBCe1/Slc4a4), predominantly expressed in ...

Unraveling the Role of Ensheathing Cells and Perineural Fibroblasts in Olfactory Neurogenesis

open access: yesGlia, Volume 73, Issue 12, Page 2407-2426, December 2025.
Main Points DEOs are similar to satellite glial cells. DECs react to neuronal injury by promoting lipid metabolism, but do not proliferate. ECs reduce gap junctions upon neuronal injury. Perineural fibroblasts also contribute to the injury response. ABSTRACT During development and following injury‐induced neurogenesis, olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs)

Volumetric MRI Comparing Longitudinal Change in MOGAD to NMOSD, MS and Healthy Controls, and Disability Associations

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, Volume 98, Issue 5, Page 1044-1056, November 2025.
Objectives To examine volumetric magnetic resonance imaging (vMRI) in myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody‐associated disease (MOGAD), compared to multiple sclerosis (MS), neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), and healthy controls (HC). Methods Standardized vMRI in MOGAD were compared to age, sex, and disease duration matched MS (5:1),
