Drought‐Induced Abscisic Acid Accumulation in Soybean Roots Depends on NCED Gene Expression More Than Shoot‐to‐Root ABA Transport

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
Abstract Abscisic acid (ABA) is a key phytohormone in plant responses to water deficit. Although there is extensive evidence that roots can synthesise ABA, recent findings suggest that local synthesis in response to dehydration contributes little to the root ABA pool compared to shoot‐sourced ABA.

Investigation of age-related changes in expression of aquaporin-1 and aquaporin-3 in rat bone [Yaşlanmayla sıçan kemiğindeki aquaporin-1 ve aquaporin-3 ekspresyonu değişikliklerinin araştırılması]

open access: yes, 2016
Aim: Aquaporins are membrane channel proteins that transport water and ions. The amount of aquaporins in tissue changes with age. The amount of aquaporin-1 (AQP1) and aquaporin-3 (AQP3) is considered to decrease in cartilage tissue with age. However, no age-related change has been reported regarding the amount of aquaporins in bone tissue.

Large Variations in the Transpiration of Sorghum Canopies Under High Evaporative Demand Are Positively Related to Water Use Efficiency

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Transpiration restriction under high vapour pressure deficit (VPD), measured indoors with individual plants, increases water use efficiency (WUE). However, VPD is not the only factor driving transpiration, individual plants in a field rapidly become a canopy, and reports on the transpiration restriction versus WUE are scant.

De‐Coupled Water and Nitrogen Translocation From Subsoil to Canopy of Temperate Forest Trees

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Water and nitrogen (N) transport from soil to canopy play a central role in tree functioning, yet direct evidence for their timing and coupling in mature forests remains scarce. We report results from a paired dual‐isotope (2H, 15N) tracer experiment in a temperate forest, comparing water and nitrate uptake patterns across tree species ...

Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi Mitigate Drought‐Enhanced Herbivore Performance in Maize

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Drought events are becoming increasingly frequent and intense, posing major challenges to crop productivity. Beyond direct water stress, drought can indirectly affect plants by enhancing herbivore performance. While arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) have been proposed to alleviate drought stress and to enhance plant resistance to herbivory ...
