Profound Cognitive Impairment as a Salient Feature of Multiple Sclerosis: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Neuroimmunology, Volume 17, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Cognitive impairment affects up to two‐thirds of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS); however, profound global deficits, defined as a full‐scale IQ below 70, are uncommon and rarely constitute the primary symptom. Case Presentation We describe a 27‐year‐old woman with severe multidomain cognitive impairment due to MS ...

Age, Low Immunoglobulin G, and M Serum Levels Predict Infections in People With AQP4‐IgG+ NMOSD Treated With Rituximab—A Multicenter Cohort Study From the German Neuromyelitis Optica Study Group (NEMOS)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neurology, Volume 33, Issue 2, February 2026.
In this multicenter cohort study, we evaluated the risk of infection in people with AQP4‐IgG+ NMOSD treated with rituximab. We found no significant difference in infection risk between patients receiving rituximab and those treated with azathioprine.

The Redox Properties of Polyphenols and Their Role in ROS Generation for Biomedical Applications

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 3, 16 January 2026.
The dual redox nature of polyphenols enables antioxidant activity and controlled reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. This review details the biomedical applications of polyphenols in materials such as nanoparticles, coatings, and hydrogels for antimicrobial, tissue regeneration, and cancer therapies.

Aquaporin‐1, aquaporin‐3 and aquaporin‐5 differentially modulate cell biophysical and biomechanical properties, impacting cell stiffness and cell–cell adhesion

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 3, Page 806-824, February 2026.
GA text Overexpression of aquaporins AQP1, AQP3, or AQP5 in HEK‐293 T cells induced changes in cell biophysical properties and migration. Atomic force microscopy (AFM)–based force spectroscopy studies demonstrated that AQP1 overexpression increased cell stiffness and cell–cell adhesion, AQP3 augmented cell stiffness but reduced cell–cell adhesion ...
