Development of latent fingermarks by aqueous electrolytes
Forensic Science International, 2011In this work we present our observations on the interaction between metallic (copper, aluminum, iron, brass, zinc) and non-metallic (glass and plastic) surfaces bearing latent fingermarks and several aqueous electrolytic solutions. Good quality fingermarks could be observed on some of the metallic and even on non-metallic surfaces after such treatment.

Dielectric spectroscopy on aqueous electrolytic solutions
Radiation and Environmental Biophysics, 2008In this work, detailed dielectric measurements are presented on aqueous electrolytic solutions of NaCl and KCl in a broad frequency range, typical for modern telecommunication techniques. The complex dielectric permittivity or equivalently the complex conductivity are systematically studied as function of frequency (100 MHz-40 GHz), temperature (10-60 ...

Despite the growing interest in advanced lithium batteries, the overwhelming majority of batteries manufactured today are still based on aqueous electrolytes, mostly sulphuric acid or potassium hydroxide solution. The ubiquitous lead acid battery is, after 150 years, still being improved as regards its design and materials of construction. Rechargeable

Dynamic modelling of aqueous electrolyte systems
Computers & Chemical Engineering, 2003The detailed dynamic modelling of processes involving aqueous electrolyte systems is complicated by a variety of factors, including the large number of ionic and non-ionic species formed in water, complex thermodynamics, simultaneous phase and reaction equilibria, and the appearance and disappearance of thermodynamic phases depending on operating ...

Estimation of the aqueous solubility of weak electrolytes
International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2006Jain and Yalkowsky [Jain, N., Yalkowsky, S.H., 2001. Estimation of the aqueous solubility. I. Application to organic non-electrolytes. J. Pharm. Sci. 90, 234-252.] demonstrated that the general solubility equation (GSE) can be used to estimate the aqueous solubility of organic non-electrolytes. In this study the applicability of the GSE was extended to

In dealing with the thermodynamic properties of ions we have one difficulty in addition to those encountered in dealing with compounds and elements. For compounds and elements we found that although we could measure absolute values for some properties, others such as enthalpy and the other energy terms contained an undetermined constant.

Rechargeable Lithium Batteries with Aqueous Electrolytes
Science, 1994Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries that use an aqueous electrolyte have been developed. Cells with LiMn 2 O 4 and VO 2 (B) as electrodes and 5 M LiNO 3 in water as the electrolyte provide a fundamentally safe and cost-effective technology that ...

Brillouin scattering in aqueous electrolyte solutions
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1972Brillouin scattering studies have been carried out in a number of aqueous electrolyte solutions at various concentrations up to 4M. Two types of results have been obtained: (1) hypersonic velocity data from the frequency shift of the Brillouin components; and (2) hypersonic absorption coefficients from the line widths of the Brillouin components.

We begin this chapter with a brief review of design improvements aimed at making batteries more abuse resistant and safe for users, and we then discuss some of the safety precautions that users need to take to prevent accidents. With few exceptions, most of the design improvements we mention have already been incorporated into batteries where necessary.
