NATURE OF THE AQUEOUS HUMOR

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1948
To be standing here today is one of the big events of my life. It is indeed curious how many of the happiest experiences I have had have occurred in this country or have been associated with Americans in many parts of the world. But to be here as your foreign guest of honor—if, indeed, "foreign' is the correct word—is without doubt the highlight of ...

Surface Tension of Aqueous Humor

Journal of Glaucoma, 2010
To measure and compare the surface tension of aqueous humor in patients with and without glaucoma. The surface tension of aqueous humor was measured using a commercially available instrument and software that were validated by using a known fluid (deionized water and methanol). Analysis of aqueous and vitreous samples obtained from 20 rabbit eyes showed

Aqueous Humor Cytology in Uveitis

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1973
A method has been developed to evaluate the type of cell, its characteristics, and possible infectious activity in patients with acute and chronic anterior inflammation of endogenous origin. The characteristics of the cells identified in several inflammatory diseases are described.

Human aqueous humor catecholamines

Current Eye Research, 1985
Timolol of 0.5% was applied in 6 eyes prior to cataract extraction, while 7 eyes were not treated. Aqueous humor was drawn after retrobulbar analgesia with 2% lidocaine and analyzed for epinephrine and norepinephrine using a radioenzymatic assay. Epinephrine levels averaged 15.8 +/- 16.2 and 19.3 +/- 27.5 pg/ml in the timolol treated group and controls

Aqueous-Humor Concentrations of Amikacin

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1983
To the Editor. —Wingfield et al, in the JanuaryArchives(1983;101:117-120), reported on aqueous humor concentrations of amikacin following 7.5-mg/kg doses injected intramuscularly in man. While we found their data to be of interest, we disagree with several of their statements.

Aqueous Humor Outflow

2021
Aqueous humor outflow (AHO) is important for supporting normal eye physiology and vision. Altered AHO occurs in glaucoma because increased AHO resistance leads to increased intraocular pressure (IOP). This increased resistance occurs at the trabecular meshwork (TM) and distal to the TM.

IS THE AQUEOUS HUMOR A DIALYSATE?

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1933
Within the last few years there have been a rapid development and change in the ideas of ophthalmologists concerning the formation of aqueous humor. The evidence obtained from laboratory experiment and clinical observation has been gathered together and woven into three distinct theories.

Sulfonamides and secretion of aqueous humor

The Journal of Experimental Zoology, 1997
The connection between carbonic anhydrase and the formation of aqueous humor arose in the decade 1950-1960 when a number of experiments of differing types showed that HCO3- ion catalytically formed in the ciliary process from CO2 was a principal element in the production of the aqueous.

Serotonin in Human Aqueous Humor

Ophthalmology, 1988
Circadian rhythms in serotonin metabolism have been observed in the pineal gland and retina, and there is evidence that the levels of serotonin and melatonin in these tissues may mediate events in the brain's sleep-wake cycle and the retina's cycle of disc shedding.

Measurement of aqueous humor flow

Experimental Eye Research, 2009
Aqueous humor flow, one of the primary determinants of intraocular pressure, has been measured non-invasively in the human eye since the early 1950s. Other than sleep, which decreases flow rate to approximately half of what it is during alert wakefulness, few conditions affect flow rate.
