Structural Power Composites Based on High Mass Loading Zn‐Ion Hybrid Supercapacitors with Metal Mesh Current Collectors and Aramid Nanofiber/Glass Fiber Composite Electrolytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multifunctional structural power composite is developed by integrating high‐mass‐loading Zn‐ion hybrid supercapacitors with metal mesh current collectors and aramid nanofiber‐based composite electrolytes, enabling simultaneous load‐bearing capability and enhanced areal energy storage.

Continuous refrigeration and dehumidification using the lower critical solution temperature cycle

open access: yesCell Reports Physical Science
Summary: Certain aqueous mixtures possess a lower critical solution temperature (LCST), such that when they are heated above the LCST, they separate into a water-rich and a water-scarce phase. This separation leads to a chemical potential difference once

Two phase aqueous extraction. Rheological properties of dextran, polyethylene glycol, bovine serum albumin and their mixtures

open access: yes, 1989
Rheological properties have been measured for aqueous solutions of dextran, polyethylene glycol and bovine serum albumin. Mixtures of these materials have also been studied.

Biomineral‐Inspired Organic/Inorganic Colloidal Liquid‐Crystalline Hybrids for Photoresponsive Adhesion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A new class of photoresponsive liquid‐crystalline (LC) adhesives based on biomineral‐inspired organic/inorganic colloidal hybrids is reported. These colloidal LC materials are formed by hybridization of a hydroxyapatite nanorod with azobenzene‐based forklike molecules.

Systematic selection of solvent mixtures for non-aqueous redox flow batteries – vanadium acetylacetonate as a model system

open access: yes, 2016
Employing solvent mixtures in the electrolyte of non-aqueous redox flow batteries can increase energy density and efficiency. In this paper, active species solubility, electrolyte conductivity, and redox reaction rates were examined systematically among ...

Conformational Switching of Proteins on Material Surfaces Enabled by Peptide‐Oriented Adsorption

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Responsive biointerfaces could be achieved using conformationally responsive proteins; however, their interconversion can be lost upon surface adsorption. Herein, we demonstrate that the incorporation a Au binding peptide into calmodulin allows for binding control on Au wherein the protein retains conformational switching. This capability was confirmed

Solubilities of carbon dioxide in aqueous mixtures of diethanolamine and 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol

open access: yes, 1996
The gas solubility of CO2 has been measured in aqueous mixtures of diethanaolamine and 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol at (40, 60, and 80)degrees C and in the pressure range (10 to 300) kPa.

Dynamically Actuated Reconfigurable Topographical Surface Enables Active Control of Implant‐Associated Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dynamically actuated reconfigurable topographical surface (DARTS) integrates contact‐mediated bactericidal nanotopography with programmable mechanical actuation to actively disrupt bacterial biofilms. Dynamic surface reconfiguration enhances bacterial killing and suppresses implant‐associated infections in vivo, providing a new strategy for active ...

Rice bran oil-in-water optimized emulsions for the development of plant-based foods and beverages

open access: yesExploration of Foods and Foodomics
Aim: This work aimed to develop rice bran oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions, stabilized with different mixtures of pea protein concentrate (PPC), Arabic gum (AG), and maltodextrin (MD), as the basis for the formulation of plant-based food products.

Chitin‐Derived Carbon‐Metal Functional Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Functional carbon materials are synthesized from combination of biopolymer (chitin) and iron precursors. The resultant material exhibits superior surface area and adsorptive properties compared to carbon materials synthesized directly from pure chitin.
