Phytochrome A is required for light‐inhibited germination of Aethionema arabicum seed

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary The germination of most seeds is influenced by the duration, intensity, and quality of light. The seeds of the model plant Arabidopsis are positive photoblastic and require light to germinate. The germination of negative photoblastic seeds is inhibited by white light.

Using plant circadian programs to optimize agrochemical use

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Agrochemicals play an important role in maximizing agricultural yields. One class of agrochemicals is herbicides, which are used for weed control and to kill the top growth of certain crops before harvest. We examine the influence of plant circadian regulation on herbicide effectiveness to exemplify how knowledge of the circadian clock could be

ARABIDOPSIS HOMOLOG OF TRITHORAX1 impacts lateral root development by epigenetic regulation of targets involved in root system architecture

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Developmental processes are regulated at multiple levels, including the epigenetic level. Among the epigenetic factors, histone H3 lysine 4 (H3K4) methyltransferases contribute to active transcription of target genes, and here, we explored how the H3K4 methyltransferase ARABIDOPSIS HOMOLOG OF TRITHORAX1 (ATX1) affects Arabidopsis thaliana ...

Functional study of Phaeodactylum tricornutum Seipin highlights specificities of lipid droplets biogenesis in diatoms

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Diatoms are a major phylum of microalgae, playing crucial ecological roles. They derive from secondary endosymbiosis, leading to a complex intracellular architecture. Their ability to store oil in lipid droplets (LDs) upon unfavourable conditions has raised interest for applications, in particular biofuels, yet Lipid Droplet (LD) biogenesis ...
