Nitrogen excretion and oxygen consumption under severe hypoxia in siluriform fishes from the Amazon

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Siluriform fishes collected from the Rio Negro and Rio Solimões proved to be highly resistant to aquatic hypoxia. In all four species analysed in this study, aquatic oxygen consumption significantly decreased from normoxic levels at water PO2 values near 1 kPa. Air‐breathing activity was observed only in Sturisoma sp. (Rio Negro).

Tissue alterations in the pirarucu, Arapaima gigas, infected by Goezia spinulosa (Nematoda) Alterações teciduais em pirarucu, Arapaima gigas, infectado por Goezia spinulosa (Nematoda)

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Parasitologia Veterinária, 2011
Five specimens of Arapaima gigas caught in the Araguaia River (State of Mato Grosso, Brazil) were investigated for helminths in 2004. Numerous adult specimens of the rhapidascarid nematode Goezia spinulosa were found in stomach ulcers in all the ...

Assessing the population structure of Plagioscion squamosissimus (Teleostei, Perciformes, Sciaenidae) from the São Francisco River, Bahia, Brazil, using body morphology and otolith shape signatures

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract The south American silver croaker, Plagioscion squamosissimus, holds significant importance for the artisanal fisheries in the sub‐middle and lower courses of the São Francisco River, located in northeastern Brazil. To investigate the population structure of this species along its longitudinal profile, a total of 150 individuals (50 fish per ...

Sustainable Bioplastics From Land and Sea Waste: Structure, Thermal Stability, and Mechanical Behavior Under Accelerated Weathering

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 143, Issue 6, February 10, 2026.
Schematic representation of the fabrication of sustainable bioplastics derived from fish scales (FS) and orange peels (OP), modified with EDC/NHS and PCL. The films were subjected to accelerated weathering to evaluate changes in structural integrity, thermal stability, and mechanical behavior.
