Low‐Cost, Large‐Scale Nanoporous Metals by Mechanical Alloying, Oxide Reduction, and Dealloying of Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder metal processing provides scalable advantages in nanoporous (np) metal development. Mechanical alloying is used to produce unique precursors for hybrid nanopore formation by oxide reduction and dealloying. As demonstrated in np Ag, this approach improves process efficiency while promoting smaller ligaments and larger pores, both of which are ...

Parish Churches, Patrimony of the Community or of the Diocese?

open access: yesActas de Arquitectura Religiosa Contemporánea, 2019
My intervention was born as a reflection on the Census of churches of Turin diocese, organized by the CEI (Italian Episcopal Conference). Through my studies, I’ve observed the case of Turin ecclesiastical heritage built in the second half of the 20th ...

Evaluating Energy Absorption Performance of Filled Lattice Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Maximum stress must be considered to robustly evaluate energy absorber designs. This approach was applied to compare all types of absorbers in a single Ashby diagram and determine the utility of filling lattice voids with a second material. High‐performance fillers can improve the performance of lattices that are limited by buckling or catastrophic ...

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

Color Categories Are Not Arbitrary [PDF]

open access: yesCross-Cultural Research, 2002
Recent, well-controlled studies in cross-language color naming and cross-language tests of color memory and learning have made important contributions to our understanding of which aspects of cross-language color naming and nonverbal response to colors may and may not be attributed to pan-human properties of color appearance.

Optimization of the Production of Rubber Compounds Using Mathematical Models

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Rubber compounds were mixed in a batch internal mixer, and symbolic regression was used to derive mathematical models linking recipe and process parameters to ram path, torque, and mixing quality (incorporation, dispersion, distribution). Subsequent optimization with evolutionary algorithms identified operating conditions that reduce specific energy ...
