Mason Dark Space and High-Pressure Arc Re-Ignition
Journal of Applied Physics, 1970A solid object immersed in the plasma of a high-pressure arc is surrounded by a dark sheath. The sheath is at plasma temperature along one boundary and near thermal equilibrium with the solid object at the other boundary. Because of ion diffusion into the sheath, the latter easily transmits low electron current densities.

Analytical modelling of arc re-ignition conditions on polluted insulating surfaces
2018 IEEE International Conference on High Voltage Engineering and Application (ICHVE), 2018The main propose of this paper is the elaboration of an analytical relationship of arc dry-band re-ignition condition of HVAC polluted insulators. The model is based on the equivalent electrical circuit of polluted insulator and the thermal proprieties of the dryband arc.

Experimental study of the decay and re-ignition of a recombining arc discharge
Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 1982Better knowledge of arc decay and re-ignition is needed for the improvement of circuit breakers. A simple but high performance device is used to study the behaviour of a wall stabilised arc submitted to recurring decay and re-ignition. It is shown that for a definite short-circuit time the arc reveals a delay between voltage and current recovery.

Post-arc Current and Re-ignition after Many Interruptions by MCCB and the Endurance
IEEJ Transactions on Power and Energy, 2003The purpose of this investigation is experimental research of many interruption performance for Molded Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB) currently used for the protection of a low voltage circuit. It is anticipated by interruption especially by high current many interruptions that the interruption performance will decrease.

An Active Limit Baffle for the Phenomenon of Arc Instability and Re-ignition
2019 IEEE Holm Conference on Electrical Contacts, 2019The arc instability and re-ignition refers to the arc cannot maintain a stable state or the arc extinguished but re-burn quickly. When a normally open relay releases, its movable contact, static contact, as well as their reeds are free, especially the movable contact of which energy cannot be dissipated immediately.

Modelling of short arc re-ignition
Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 1993A unified mathematical description of phenomena leading to short arc re-ignition is presented. Computational results for a 2 mm long post-arc channel appearing at current zero after the burning of a 900 A arc on silver electrodes are discussed. The analysis concerns both cathode and anode electrode layers, for which computations were run simultaneously.
