Architectural acoustics for the organ

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1983
Organs are used in many settings: churches, concert halls, recital halls, and even practice rooms. An organ may be used as a solo instrument, as accompaniment to a chorus, or as part of an orchestral ensemble. There is a wide range of appropriate acoustics for the auditorium as well as placement of the instrument and performer with relation to the ...

ARCHITECTURAL ACOUSTIC DEVICE

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2012
An acoustic device and a method for altering sound. The acoustic device includes an architectural structure having a solid body. The architectural structure is adapted to be mounted on a wall of a room. The solid body has a channel therethrough to define a cavity therein. The channel is configured to alter sound waves incident on the acoustic device.

Generative acoustics in architecture

Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2016
The researchers share three studies in parametric, generative, and iterative architectural acoustics. (1) A real-time parametric model shapes a geometrically complex ceiling plane with grips in order to visualize first-order reflections so that early arriving strong reflections may be directed to the audience and late-arriving echoes may be avoided. (2)

Acoustical design in architecture

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2005
Cyril Harris’s name is best known to the general public for the outstanding concert halls he has designed. But his impact on reduction of noise and vibration through the application of established fundamental engineering design principles is far greater through the work of others who have benefited from the books (and particularly handbooks) he has ...

Architectural acoustic teaching software

Automation in Construction, 1997
This paper presents a working hypothesis for the development of Architectural Acoustics teaching software. The concepts and rationale underlying the development are discussed first and followed by a presentation of current first-phase 2D work in progress.

Architectural-acoustics consulting

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2004
Consulting involves both the science of acoustics and the art of communication, requiring an array of inherent and created skills. Perhaps because consulting on architectural acoustics is a relatively new field, there is a remarkable variety of career paths, all influenced by education, interest, and experience.

The raw and the cooked in architectural acoustics

Proceedings of Meetings on Acoustics, 2013
Whereas the “raw” experience of live sound events is often quite far removed from the “cooked” auditory imagery that is presented when live acoustical events are amplified by a sound reinforcement system, there are many audio signal processing tools that can be applied in the attempt to simulate the more natural auditory characteristics of live ...

Acoustical education in architecture.

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2009
Sound can provide valuable contributions to the education and practice of architecture. First, architecture students should develop a theory of how sound and other environmental systems can become part of a larger theory of the making of architecture. Second, architects are trained to have highly developed sensibilities in the aesthetic design of space.

Architecture and Acoustics in an Era of Experimentation

2021
Architecture and acoustics are inextricably intertwined, using the same tools (volume, shape, surface) to create places for the exchange of ideas transmitted through sound, movement, and words. This remains true for well-established building types like concert halls, theaters and opera houses.
