View composition as a first-class concept in architectural descriptions

open access: yes, 2007
Our position is that architectural descriptions lack composition of views, preventing a proper separation of concerns. This position took shape from experiences with building several complex distributed software systems.

An investigation into the architecture and composition of a urinary calculus

open access: yesJournal of Materials Science: Materials in Medicine, 2002
A bladder stone of diameter of 16 mm was sectioned to reveal an internal structure showing some complexity. Visually apparent were concentric rings divided into two principal zones. The outer zone comprised large single interlocking crystals, but the inner zones consisted of a much more fragile environment in which large single crystals were embedded ...

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

Composition of Software Architectures.

open access: yes, 2002
Computer systems are becoming more and more complex and need to provide an ever increasing number of non-functional properties, such as reliability, availability, security, etc.. Such non-functional properties are usually provided to a system by general mechanisms called middleware.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

Architectural Policies, Regulation and Jury Dilemmas in Architectural Competitions

open access: yes, 2011
The Nordic tradition of architectural competitions is over a hundred years old and is very significant for an architect’s professional and practical external training.
