Migratory behaviour of reared Norwegian coastal cod and north east Arctic cod

open access: yes, 1995
This paper is based on experiments to test if differences in migratory behaviour of Norwegian coastal cod and north east Arctic cod is related to parental origin or, alternatively, is related to the environmental experienced during the premature stages. Earlier experiments have shown that when wild fish from the two groups are transplanted and released

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Ambient temperature and distribution of northeast arctic cod

open access: yes, 1996
Most studies on the effects of field temperature on fish distribution and population parameters have considered the temperature and its variability at fixed stations or sections rather than the temperature in the actual surroundings of the fish, the ambient temperature.

Dose‐dependent hepatotoxicity of hydrogen peroxide in HepG2 cells and its modulation by CYP450 induction

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
NMR metabolomics revealed concentration‐dependent metabolic perturbations in HepG2 cells exposed to H2O2. Rifampicin pretreatment enhanced metabolic competence, attenuated toxin‐induced alterations and produced metabolite profiles more consistent with human liver physiology, supporting the use of CYP450‐induced HepG2 models for improved in vitro ...

Temperature selectivity in Icelandic and Northeast-Arctic cod

open access: yes, 2021
Increasing water temperatures are predicted worldwide, with high amplitudes in the Arctic and sub-Arctic regions exceeding predictions for other regions. An understanding how Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) reacted to changing environmental conditions in the past is essential for predicting re-distribution under climate change.

Delivery of DNA‐encoded vaccines and proteins in mice using cutaneous suction‐mediated transfection

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cutaneous suction‐mediated transfection in mice for delivery of DNA‐encoded vaccines and proteins. A critical limitation of DNA vaccines and other therapeutics is transfection in vivo to produce the encoded antigens or therapeutic proteins. Cutaneous suction‐based methods have demonstrated effectiveness in many animal models and have been successfully ...

Summer foraging habitat suitability for highly mobile male beluga whales in the Eastern Beaufort Sea and Arctic Archipelago

open access: yesArctic Science
Eastern Beaufort Sea belugas face threats from increasing vessel traffic and decreasing availability of Arctic cod driven by climate change. This necessitates an improved understanding of the environmental drivers of their foraging habitat suitability to

Evolution‐guided yeast complementation reveals functional differences in human PSPH variants

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Ancient genomes can help guide which human genetic variants are tested experimentally. This study applies that idea to PSPH, a gene involved in serine biosynthesis, and uses high‐throughput yeast complementation to compare variant function. The findings reveal measurable differences among selected alleles and illustrate the value of evolution‐guided ...

Structural studies and functional engineering of NanX: an anhydro‐sialic acid transporter from Escherichia coli

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biophysical characterisation shows that NanX, a membrane transport protein from the major facilitator superfamily (MFS), forms both monomers and dimers after purification. AlphaFold modelling and substrate docking provide information on residues likely involved in substrate recognition for NanX and another MFS member, NanT.

Purification and preparation of Marchantia polymorpha Auxin Response Factor 2 for phase separation studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe detailed protocols for the purification and preparation of Marchantia polymorpha Auxin Response Factor 2 (MpARF2). This protein is fused to an MBP solubility tag and an mNG fluorescent tag and is purified from Escherichia coli. The presented procedures make it possible to study MpARF2 assemblies, which could arise from phase separation ...
