The Area under an ROC Curve with Limited Information
Medical Decision Making, 2003The area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve of a diagnostic test can be used as a summary measure for its discriminative ability. If only a single point of an ROC curve is available, then the entire form of the ROC curve is unknown and the area under it cannot be calculated. Assuming that the unknown ROC curve is either monotone or

Area under the curve and bioavailability
Pharmacological Research, 2000The Area Under the Curve (AUC) is proportional to the fraction absorbed only if the clearance is constant and the concentration uniform; in all other cases the bioavailability cannot be determined by comparing AUCs.

Estimation of the area under the ROC curve
Statistics in Medicine, 2002AbstractThe area under the receiver operating characteristic curve is frequently used as a measure for the effectiveness of diagnostic markers. In this paper we discuss and compare estimation procedures for this area. These are based on (i) the Mann–Whitney statistic; (ii) kernel smoothing; (iii) normal assumptions; (iv) empirical transformations to ...

Optimization of the Area under the ROC Curve
2008 10th Brazilian Symposium on Neural Networks, 2008In this paper, we propose a new binary classification algorithm (AUCtron), based on gradient descent learning, that directly optimizes AUC (area under the ROC curve). We compare it with a linear classifier and with AUCsplit proposed. The AUCtron algorithm implicitly considers class prior probabilities in the decision criteria.

The use of mycophenolate mofetil area under the curve
Current Opinion in Rheumatology, 2021Purpose of review Although mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) has been used successfully to treat a myriad of autoimmune diseases, its complex pharmacokinetics make it difficult to determine the true drug exposure for an individual patient.

Vancomycin Area Under the Curve Simplified
Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, 2018Background: Serum trough concentrations as the sole means of monitoring safety and efficacy of vancomycin are insufficient. The daily area under the curve (AUC24) of serum concentration versus time to minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) ratio of greater than 400 mg × h/L has emerged as a more robust dosing target.

Approximation of Area under a Curve
The Mathematics Teacher, 1984High school students occasionally find themselves needing to determine the area under a curve. This problem may arise when motion or work is studied in a science course; the curve is plotted from experimental data, and no equation of the curve is known. In a mathematics course, a function may be given and the area under it may be of interest.
