IdeTo: Spreadsheets for Calculation and Analysis of Area Under the Disease Progress Over Time Data
When disease ratings are obtained over time, area under the disease progress metrics such as area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC) and area under the disease progress stairs (AUDPS), which allow integration of these measures into a single value ...

Why area under the curve in hypothesis testing? [PDF]
To compare two different hypothesis testing techniques, researchers use the following heuristic idea: for each technique, they form a curve describing how the probabilities of type I and type II errors are related for this technique, and then compare areas under the resulting curves. In this paper, we provide a justification for this heuristic idea.

Network topology drives population temporal variability in experimental habitat networks
Habitat patches connected by dispersal pathways form habitat networks. We explored how network topology affects population outcomes in laboratory experiments using a model species (Daphnia carinata). Central habitat nodes in complex lattice networks exhibited lower temporal variability in population sizes, suggesting they support more stable ...

Geographic variation in walking activity in the red flour beetle Tribolium castaneum
This study examined whether there is geographic variation in field populations, focusing on the moving activity in the red flour beetle Tribolium castaneum. Results showed significant differences in moving activity among field populations but no correlation with latitude or meteorological factors.

The cumulative effects of known susceptibility variants to predict primary biliary cirrhosis risk. [PDF]
Multiple genetic variants influence the risk for development of primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC). To explore the cumulative effects of known susceptibility loci on risk, we utilized a weighted genetic risk score (wGRS) to evaluate whether genetic ...

We investigate the seasonal dynamics of two freshwater snails, Biomphalaria straminea and Melanoides tuberculata, in artificial reservoirs of the Brazilian semiarid region. Despite regulated hydrology, B. straminea exhibited strong seasonal fluctuations associated with dry periods, while M. tuberculata maintained stable populations throughout the year,

Evidence of questionable research practices in clinical prediction models
Background Clinical prediction models are widely used in health and medical research. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) is a frequently used estimate to describe the discriminatory ability of a clinical prediction model ...

Moving in the Dark: Enlightening the Spatial Population Ecology of European Cave Salamanders
We assessed individual interactions, movement ecology and activity patterns of a subterranean population of Speleomantes strinatii, applying spatial capture–recapture modeling to a photographic dataset of 104 individuals. ABSTRACT Space use and movement are fundamental aspects of organisms' ecology, mirroring individual fitness, behavior, and life ...
