Measurement of Arginine Vasopressin
2013Arginine vasopressin (AVP) is a peptide hormone synthesised in the hypothalamus and secreted from nerve terminals within the posterior pituitary gland. Secretion is primarily under osmoregulatory control and levels rise in plasma in response to a body water deficit and are suppressed in response to water overload.

Carbamylation of Oxytocin and Arginine-Vasopressin
Nature, 1963SYNTHETIC analogues of oxytocin and vasopressin in which the terminal amino group is absent or modified exhibit remarkable differences in biological activity. Whereas desamino-oxytocin is highly active1,2, analogues of oxytocin in which the amino group is substituted by acylation or alkylation retain little pharmacological activity3–5, and some act as ...

THE DEVELOPMENT OF A RADIOIMMUNOASSAY FOR ARGININE VASOPRESSIN
Acta Endocrinologica, 1976ABSTRACT The development of a sensitive and specific radioimmunoassay for vasopressin is described. Antibodies were successfully produced following the coupling of synthetic arginine vasopressin with bovine serum albumin carried out with carbodiimide.

Arginine vasopressin in Cushing's disease
The Lancet, 1990Bilateral simultaneous blood samples were taken from the inferior petrosal sinuses of nine patients with Cushing's disease for measurement of adrenocorticotropin (ACTH), vasopressin (AVP), prolactin, growth hormone, luteinising hormone (LH), and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH).

Episodic secretion of arginine vasopressin.
American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism, 1977The plasma arginine vasopressin (pAVP) response to osmotic stimulation was studied in dogs and sheep by sampling at frequent intervals during steady-state dehydration and during water diuresis. Frequent sampling also was conducted after continuous infusion or bolus injection of 5 or 20 g/100 ml NaCl. A pulsatile pattern of pAVP was observed after such

The passage of 125I-labelled arginine-vasopressin (AVP) and its analogues desmopressin (DDAVP) and desglycinamide arginine-vasopressin (DGAVP) into cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) has been studied in the dog. After intravenous injection or infusion of these peptides radioactive sustances were found in the CSF in amounts ranging from 0·5 to 1·4% of the total ...

To investigate whether plasma osmolality (Posm)-plasma arginine vasopressin (PAVP) response relationships with particular characteristics of sensitivity, gain or response pattern (linear/non-linear) occur more frequently in hypertensive than normotensive subjects.Analysis of Posm-PAVP curves observed in individual normotensive and hypertensive subjects

Arginine Vasopressin, Stress, and Memorya
Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 1985Arginine vasopressin (AVP) has been shown to have several non-renal actions including the potentiation of learned avoidance behavior in rats and improvement in cognitive functioning in humans. Research in our laboratory has confirmed these behavioral effects in rats using both peripheral and central injection of AVP.

Arginine Vasopressin as a Thyrotropin-Releasing Hormone
Science, 1987Although hypothyroidism (with concomitant increased levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone) has been associated with elevated plasma vasopressin, the role that vasopressin plays in controlling thyroid-stimulating hormone secretion from the adenohypophysis is not understood.

Radioimmunoassay of Arginine Vasopressin in Human Plasma
The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1973ABSTRACT A highly sensitive specific radioimmunoassay (RIA) method for the measurement of arginine vasopressin (AVP) is described. The sensitivity of the assay is 0.1 pg/ml. A simple extraction technique from plasma is described with a consistent recovery of about 65–70%, and without alteration in the immunoreactivity of the extracted hormone.
