Effects of arginine vasotocin on cardiorespiratory and thermoregulatory responses in the pigeon

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part C: Comparative Pharmacology, 1992
1. The effects of intramuscular injections (10 ng, 100 ng, 1 mu or 10 mu/pigeon) of two preparations of synthetic arginine vasotocin (AVT), deamino-dicarba-arginine vasotocin (ddAVT) and arginine vasotocin diacetate tetrahydrate (AVTdt) on heart rate (HR), breathing frequency (BF), oxygen consumption (VO2), cloacal and foot temperatures (Tc and Tf) and

Arginine vasotocin stimulates glucocorticoid secretion in male rats

Progress in Neuro-Psychopharmacology and Biological Psychiatry, 1983
The endocrine effects of the putative pineal peptide arginine vasotocin (AVT) were compared with those of the pineal indoleamines melatonin and N-acetylserotonin and passive immunization against these indoleamines in male rats injected at 1200 hr or 2400 hr.

THE ISOLATION OF ARGININE VASOTOCIN FROM FISH PITUITARY GLANDS

Endocrinology, 1961
A neurohypophyseal hormone was isolated from Hake pituitary powder by means of countercurrent distribution and column chromatography. This hormone has the biological potency and amino acid composition of arginine vasotocin.

Regulation of opioid peptides on the release of arginine vasotocin in the hen

Journal of Experimental Zoology, 2000
Arginine vasotocin (AVT), an avian neurohypophysial hormone, is released during osmotic stimulation and oviposition. In the present study, the role of opioid peptides on AVT release was studied by examining the effects of an opioid agonist and antagonist on osmotic- and oviposition-induced secretion of AVT.

Similar effects of arginine-vasopressin and arginine-vasotocin on permeability of toad skin

Experientia, 1967

The biological activities of arginine-vasotocin obtained by a new synthesis

Experientia, 1962

Distribution of arginine vasotocin in the brain of the lizard Anolis carolinensis

Cell and Tissue Research, 1992
The distribution of immunoreactive arginine vasotocin (AVT-ir) was determined in the brain of the lizard Anolis carolinensis. Cells and fibers containing AVT-ir were found in the medial septal region, lamina terminalis, lateral forebrain bundle, preoptic area, supraoptic nucleus, anterior hypothalamus, paraventricular nucleus, periventricular nucleus ...

Arginine Vasotocin: Site and Mode of Action in the Reptilian Kidney

General and Comparative Endocrinology, 2002
Recent morphological, physiological, and molecular studies that shed light on the functional significance of the neurohypophysial peptide arginine vasotocin (AVT) in the reptilian kidney are reviewed. Several structural features of the reptilian nephron are highlighted, including the presence of an incipient juxta-glomerular apparatus, aglomerular ...

Arginine Vasotocin Neuronal Phenotype and Interspecific Cooperative Behaviour

Brain, Behavior and Evolution, 2013
The nonapeptide arginine vasotocin (AVT) and its mammalian homologue arginine vasopressin are well known for their role in the modulation of several intraspecific social behaviours, such as social approach/withdrawal and aggression. Recently, we suggested that AVT might also be important in the regulation of interspecific social behaviours as it ...

The effect of arginine vasotocin on prostaglandin production of the hen uterus

General and Comparative Endocrinology, 1984
The effect of arginine vasotocin (AVT) on prostaglandin (PG) production by the hen uterus (shell gland) in vitro was investigated. It was found that AVT caused uterine contractions as well as PG release from the uteri. In uterine homogenates, which lack the functional integrity for mechanical contractions, AVT also caused an increase in PG biosynthesis.
