Identification of a C-type lectin from the bay scallop Argopecten irradians
Molecular Biology Reports, 2008C-type lectins are Ca(2+) dependent carbohydrate-recognition proteins that play crucial roles in the invertebrate innate immunity, such as nonself recognition, activation of proPO system, antibacterial activity, promotion of phagocytosis and nodule formation.

A complete diallel cross between two bay scallop populations, Argopecten irradians concentricus Say (M) and A. irradians irradians Lamarck (C), was carried out. Growth and survival were compared among hybrids and pure populations. No significant difference in the shell length was found among the four groups on the first day of D-larvae.

An immune responsive multidomain galectin from bay scallop Argopectens irradians
Fish & Shellfish Immunology, 2010Galectins are a family of beta-galactoside-binding lectins which play crucial roles in innate immunity of vertebrates and invertebrates. In the present study, the cDNA of a galectin with multiple carbohydrate-recognition domains (CRDs) was cloned from bay scallop Argopectens irradians (designated AiGal1) by expressed sequence tag (EST) and rapid ...

Two different stocks (A and B) of the bay scallop Argopecten irradialls irradians (Lamarck, 1819) were used to test mass selection on growth. Stock A was a descending stock from the initial introduction from U.S.A. in 1982, which had been cultured in China for about 20 years. Stock B was the third generation from a recent introduction from U.S.A.

The combined effects of temperature and salinity on embryonic development and on larval survival and growth to setting size of the northerm bay scallop Argopecten irradians irradians (Lamarck) were studied in the laboratory. A 6x6 complete factorial design was used; temperatures ranged from 10° to 35°C, at 5C° intervals, and salinities ranged from 10 ...

Characterization of a myostatin-like gene from the bay scallop, Argopecten irradians
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Structure and Expression, 2004A complete cDNA was cloned from the bay scallop (Argopecten irradians) that codes for a 382-amino-acid myostatin-like protein (sMSTN). The sMSTN sequence is most similar to mammalian myostatin (MSTN), containing a conserved proteolytic cleavage site (RXXR) and conserved cysteine residues in the C-terminus.

Marine Environmental Research
Global warming has significantly impacted agriculture, particularly in animal husbandry and aquaculture industry. Rising ocean temperatures due to global warming are severely affecting shellfish production, necessitating an understanding of how shellfish cope with thermal stress.

Science of The Total Environment
Coastal areas are confronted with compounding threats arising from both climatic and non-climatic stressors. Antibiotic pollution and ocean acidification are two prevalently concurrent environmental stressors. Yet their interactive effects on marine biota have not been investigated adequately and the compound hazard remain obscure.
