Abstract The surface area of organisms is a key parameter in ecological and evolutionary applications. For example, surface area‐dependent traits such as rates of cutaneous water loss and of heat absorbed are relevant for predicting animal desiccation rates and body temperatures.

A major constraint on the evolution of large body sizes in animals is an increased risk of developing cancer. There is no correlation, however, between body size and cancer risk. This lack of correlation is often referred to as 'Peto's Paradox'. Here, we

Finite Element Analysis of the Cingulata Jaw: An Ecomorphological Approach to Armadillo’s Diets
Finite element analyses (FEA) were applied to assess the lower jaw biomechanics of cingulate xenarthrans: 14 species of armadillos as well as one Pleistocene pampathere (11 extant taxa and the extinct forms Vassallia, Eutatus and Macroeuphractus).

Computing Skinning Weights via Convex Duality
We present an alternate optimization method to compute bounded biharmonic skinning weights. Our method relies on a dual formulation, which can be optimized with a nonnegative linear least squares setup. Abstract We study the problem of optimising for skinning weights through the lens of convex duality.

Hierarchical Differentiable Fluid Simulation
We introduce a two‐step algorithm that significantly reduces memory usage for solving control problems using differentiable fluid simulation techniques: our method first optimizes for bulk forces at reduced resolution, then refines local details over sub‐domains while maintaining differentiability. In trading runtime for memory, it enables optimization

SDFs from Unoriented Point Clouds using Neural Variational Heat Distances
We propose a novel variational approach for computing neural Signed Distance Fields (SDF) from unoriented point clouds. We first compute a small time step of heat flow (middle) and then use its gradient directions to solve for a neural SDF (right). Abstract We propose a novel variational approach for computing neural Signed Distance Fields (SDF) from ...

Adaptive Non-Rigid Inpainting of 3D Point Cloud Geometry
In this letter, we introduce several algorithms for geometry inpainting of 3D point clouds with large holes. The algorithms are examplar-based: hole filling is performed iteratively using templates near the hole boundary to find the best matching regions

Abstract Measuring area‐based conservation outcomes in tropical forests is challenging due to cryptic human disturbances (e.g., hunting). As a result, comparative studies of management strategies providing quantitative outcomes remain scarce, especially in the Neotropics.
