Clinical applications of next‐generation sequencing‐based ctDNA analyses in breast cancer: defining treatment targets and dynamic changes during disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) offers a possibility for different applications in early and late stage breast cancer management. In early breast cancer tumor informed approaches are increasingly used for detecting molecular residual disease (MRD) and early recurrence. In advanced stage, ctDNA provides a possibility for monitoring disease progression and

Circulating tumor cells in metastatic breast cancer patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors – a biomarker analysis of the ALICE and ICON trials

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative biomarker analysis, we assessed serial sampling of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) with CellSearch in two randomized trials testing immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in metastatic breast cancer. Our data demonstrate a prognostic potential of CTCs, most apparent 4 weeks into ICI therapy.

Controllability For Underactuated Compliant Arms

open access: yes2022 I-RIM 3D, 2021
Underactuated compliant arms are a promising technology to outperform traditional rigid robots in interaction tasks, thanks to their adaptability and shock-absorbing prop- erties. However, the control problem is yet to be solved. In this paper, we study the controllability for a class of planar underactuated compliant arms under gravity.

Russia’s Current Nuclear Modernization and Arms Control

open access: yesJournal for Peace and Nuclear Disarmament, 2018
Russia’s strategic modernization program suggests that it is determined to continue its reliance on nuclear weapons as a key element of its national security strategy. The US is now also committed to the large-scale modernization of its strategic forces.

Use of accelerometers in the control of practical prosthetic arms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Accelerometers can be used to augment the control of powered prosthetic arms. They can detect the orientation of the joint and limb and the controller can correct for the amount of torque required to move the limb.

Circulating tumor cells: advancing personalized therapy in small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive form of lung cancer that spreads rapidly to secondary sites such as the brain and liver. Cancer cells circulating in the blood, “circulating tumor cells” (CTCs), have demonstrated prognostic value in SCLC, and evaluating biomarkers on CTCs could guide treatment decisions such as for PARP inhibitors ...

Promoting Nuclear Disarmament through Bilateral Arms Control: Will New START Extension Pave the Path to Disarmament?

open access: yesJournal for Peace and Nuclear Disarmament, 2021
The United States and Russia agreed to extend the 2010 New START Treaty in February 2021. Many analysts believed that this step would reinvigorate the US-Russian arms control process, lead to deeper reductions in nuclear weapons, and possibly pave the ...

Exploiting Heterogeneity in Robust Federated Best-Arm Identification [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
We study a federated variant of the best-arm identification problem in stochastic multi-armed bandits: a set of clients, each of whom can sample only a subset of the arms, collaborate via a server to identify the best arm (i.e., the arm with the highest mean reward) with prescribed confidence.

The COVID-19 infection control arms race

open access: yesInfection control and hospital epidemiology, 2020
US hospitals are engaged in an infection control arms race. Hospitals, specialties, and professional groups are spurring one another on to adopt progressively more aggressive measures in response to COVID-19 that often exceed federal and international ...
