Characterization and engineering of a plastic-degrading aromatic polyesterase

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2018
Significance Synthetic polymers are ubiquitous in the modern world but pose a global environmental problem. While plastics such as poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) are highly versatile, their resistance to natural degradation presents a serious ...

A green chemical approach for nitration of aromatic compounds

open access: yesMacedonian Journal of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, 2009
Photochemical aromatic nitration of phenol and salicylic acid has been carried out in the presence of UV radiations and formation of products has been observed spectrophotometrically.

Post Synthetic Modification of Planar Antiaromatic Hexaphyrin (1.0.1.0.1.0) by Regio-Selective, Sequential SNAr

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
In spite of unique structural, spectroscopic and redox properties, the synthetic variants of the planar, antiaromatic hexaphyrin (1.0.1.0.1.0) derivatives 2, has been limited due to the low yields and difficulty in access to the starting material.

Process for lowering the dielectric constant of polyimides using diamic acid additives [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
Linear aromatic polyimides with low dielectric constants are produced by adding a diamic acid additive to the polyamic acid resin formed by the condensation of an aromatic dianhydride with an aromatic diamine. The resulting modified polyimide is a better

Characterization of aromaticity in analogues of titan's atmospheric aerosols with two-step laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry

open access: yes, 2016
The role of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and Nitrogen containing PAH (PANH) as intermediates of aerosol production in the atmosphere of Titan has been a subject of controversy for a long time.

Aromatic Hydrocarbons, Diamonds, and Fullerenes in Interstellar Space: Puzzles to be Solved by Laboratory and Theoretical Astrochemistry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
New research is presented, and previous research is reviewed, on the emission and absorption of interstellar aromatic hydrocarbons. Emission from aromatic hydrocarbons dominate the mid-infrared emission of many galaxies, including our own Milky Way ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.
