Virtually every type of application, program, and component uses arrays for data storage—regardless of the programming language used. While Visual Basic lets you easily create arrays, it contains no intrinsic methods for most common tasks for working with arrays. You need to write your own subroutines (or take advantage of those written by someone else)

Printing protein arrays from DNA arrays
Nature Methods, 2008We describe a method, DNA array to protein array (DAPA), which allows the 'printing' of replicate protein arrays directly from a DNA array template using cell-free protein synthesis. At least 20 copies of a protein array can be obtained from a single DNA array.

Array redundancy for active line arrays
IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 1996Active imaging arrays are used to image scenes composed of reflectors of transmitted radiation, and in many such applications, line arrays are employed. In this paper, we discuss scanned active line arrays for imaging based on image synthesis. We define the novel concept of array redundancy for active arrays, analogous to the well-known concept of ...

In less than 40 years, aptamers have consolidated their role in biosensor development. Chemically related to nucleic acid probes, production of aptamers against targets of various sizes and compositions places them as ideal capture elements, alternative to more consolidated molecules such as antibodies.

Microstructured Liposome Array
Bioconjugate Chemistry, 2005Conversion of a DNA chip to a nanocapsule array was performed by grafting on a liposome an oligonucleotide complementary to an oligonucleotide bound to the array. Each liposome may be loaded by a soluble molecule or may present a hydrophobic or amphiphilic molecule inserted in its wall.

With the National Science Foundation about to give the go-ahead for the Millimeter Array and several smaller projects under way, some astronomers fear that there won't be enough money to support research on these new instruments.

Sonar Arrays and Array Processing
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2005Arrays of hydrophones have been part of Navy sonar systems for over fifty years now. They are used both passively and actively and now are quite sophisticated. These arrays were used in fixed configuration such as the SOSUS system and towed arrays deployed from surface ships and submarines.

Array tomography: imaging stained arrays.
Cold Spring Harbor protocols, 2011Array tomography is a volumetric microscopy method based on physical serial sectioning. Ultrathin sections of a plastic-embedded tissue are cut using an ultramicrotome, bonded in an ordered array to a glass coverslip, stained as desired, and imaged.
