Hypertension and arterial aneurysm

open access: yesJournal of the American College of Cardiology, 1983
The rather common coexistence of arterial aneurysm and systemic hypertension may be attributed to their respective frequency as clinical findings. The development of hypertension secondary to renal ischemia that can occur as a complication of certain types of aneurysmal disease is well recognized.

Tie2‐Dependent Mechanisms Influence Leptomeningeal Collateral Dynamics and Reperfusion Following Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that endothelial EphA4 limits Tie2 activation and curbs leptomeningeal collateral expansion after ischemic stroke. Pharmacological activation of Tie2 by an Ang‐1 mimetic or genetic loss of EphA4 stimulates collateral vessel growth, improves cerebral perfusion, and enhances neurological recovery.

Targeting Adipose Tissue Function Protects Against Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study explores the role adipose tissue (AT) phenotypes have in determining cardiovascular outcomes in an obesity‐related heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) model. Pharmacological induction of thermogenesis promoted resilience to HFpEF‐induced remodeling of AT and conferred cardioprotection. Surgical and genetic models confirmed

The Treatment of Arterial Hypertension.

open access: yesCurrent health sciences journal, 2019
Arterial hypertension is the leading cause of death worldwide and is one of the most important public health problems. Arterial hypertension is a major cardiovascular risk factor with an increasing incidence. In this paper we set out to analyze a group of 3050 patients hospitalized between January 2013 and December 2017 in terms of drug therapy.

Single‐Cell Metabolic Imaging Reveals Glycogen‐Driven Adaptations in Endothelial Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Single‐cell metabolic imaging of diabetes‐associated endothelial dysfunction by SRS microscopy reveals dynamic glycogen storage and its role in modulating metabolic adaptations under glucose starvation. Abstract Endothelial dysfunction (ED) is a defining feature of diabetes mellitus (DM) and a key contributor to many metabolic and cardiovascular ...

Inactivation of AXL in Cardiac Fibroblasts Alleviates Right Ventricular Remodeling in Pulmonary Hypertension

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a progressive condition with high morbidity and mortality, largely owing to right ventricular (RV) failure resulting from maladaptive remodeling. Our study provides strong evidence in support of a critical, detrimental role for AXL as a previously unrecognized determinant driving RV fibrotic pathology in PH.
