Separation and characterization of plasma lipoproteins of rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulatta)

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1977
A group of 14 adult male rhesus monkeys was maintained on a low cholesterol–high fat diet. Periodically, animals were fasted and blood samples were taken for characterization of the plasma lipoproteins.

The HIV protease inhibitor ritonavir increases lipoprotein production and has no effect on lipoprotein clearance in mice

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2002
This study examined the effect of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) protease inhibitor therapy on lipoprotein production and catabolism in vivo. The HIV protease inhibitor ritonavir was given to C57BL/6 mice fed either a basal low-fat diet or a Western ...

Aortic Pulse Wave Velocity and Extracellular Water Expansion in Hemodialysis Patients

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Pulse wave velocity (PWV), a measurement of arterial stiffness, is a risk factor for cardiovascular mortality in hemodialysis patients. Debate continues as to whether PWV is increased by volume overload. As such, we reviewed the association between volume overload and PWV.

Modified arteriosclerosis score predicts the outcomes of diabetic kidney disease

open access: yesBMC Nephrology, 2021
Background The significance of renal arteriosclerosis in the prediction of the renal outcomes of diabetic kidney disease (DKD) remains undetermined. Methods We enrolled 174 patients with DKD from three centres from January 2010 to July 2017. The severity

Telomere length, cardiovascular risk and arteriosclerosis in human kidneys: an observational cohort study

open access: yesAging, 2015
Background Replicative senescence, associated with telomere shortening, plays an important role in aging and cardiovascular disease. The relation between telomere length, cardiovascular risk, and renal disease is unknown. Methods Our study consisted of a

Prevalence of airflow limitation in outpatients with cardiovascular diseases in Japan. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background and objectives: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) commonly coexist and share common risk factors. The prevalence of COPD in outpatients with a smoking history and CVD in Japan is unknown.

MFG‐E8 Accelerates Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Formation by Enhancing ERK MAPK/NOX4 Axis‐Associated Oxidative Stress

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
MFG‐E8 promotes oxidative stress by upregulating NOX4 and activating the MAPK pathway, which increases ROS production and affects vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) apoptosis, thereby driving the progression of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). Resveratrol can inhibit the expression and function of MFG‐E8, reduce ROS generation, and lower the incidence ...

Thin-layer electrophoresis of serum lipoproteins

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1966
A method is described for semiquantitative study of serum lipoproteins, with particular reference to the very low density fractions involved in transport of triglycerides. Serum samples were subjected to electrophoresis in thin layers of starch granules;
