ABSTRACT Background Transfusion with fresh frozen plasma (FFP) or hetastarch 6% (HES) is an option for managing decreased colloid oncotic pressure (COP) associated with hypoproteinemia. The effectiveness of HES compared to plasma has not been reported in calves and goats. Hypothesis Hetastarch increases COP to levels similar to FFP.

Blocking Superantigen‐Mediated Diseases: Challenges and Future Trends
Superantigens are virulence factors secreted by microorganisms that can cause various immune diseases, such as overactivating the immune system, resulting in cytokine storms, rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple sclerosis. Some studies have demonstrated that superantigens do not require intracellular processing and instated bind as intact proteins to the

Seroprevalence and risk factors associated with caprine arthritis encephalitis virus infection in goats: insights from three egyptian governorates [PDF]
This study aimed to determine the seroprevalence of caprine arthritis encephalitis virus (CAEV) in goats in three northern Egyptian governorates (Kafr El Sheikh, Beheira, and Alexandria) and assess the associated risk factors.

Caprine arthritis encephalitis virus dysregulates the expression of cytokines in macrophages
Caprine arthritis encephalitis virus (CAEV) is a lentivirus of goats that leads to chronic mononuclear infiltration of various tissues, in particular, the radiocarpal joints. Cells of the monocyte/macrophage lineage are the major host cells of CAEV in vivo.

Development of an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for caprine arthritis-encephalitis virus [PDF]
Because relatively few caprine arthritis-encephalitis virus (CAEV)-infected animals exhibit clinical signs of illness, efforts to control and eradicate this virus will depend heavily on a sensitive diagnostic test that can be easily carried out. The currently utilized tests are of limited usefulness because of relatively low sensitivity or because of ...
