A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Proposed Methodology for Correcting Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy Field-of-View Scene-Change Artifacts

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Fourier-transform spectrometers are widely used for spectral measurements. Changes in the field of view during measurement introduce oscillations into the measured spectra known as scene-change artifacts.

Elevated Connectivity During Language Processing Is Associated With Cognitive Performance in SeLECTS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Self‐Limited Epilepsy with Centrotemporal Spikes (SeLECTS) is associated with language impairments despite seizures originating in the motor cortex, suggesting aberrant cross‐network interactions. Here we tested whether functional connectivity in SeLECTS during language tasks predicts language performance.

Metal Artifact Correction in Industrial CT Images Based on a Dual-Domain Joint Deep Learning Framework

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Industrial computed tomography (CT) images reconstructed directly from projection data using the filtered back projection (FBP) method exhibit strong metal artifacts due to factors such as beam hardening, scatter, statistical noise, and deficiencies in ...

Comprehensive Assessment of Arterial, Tissue, and Venous Collaterals for Evaluating the Infarct Growth Rate: The Multimodal Collateral Score

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Collaterals are crucial factors that influence the infarct growth rate (IGR). We aimed to determine whether a comprehensive multimodal collateral score (MCS), incorporating collateral assessment at the arterial, tissue, and venous levels, is associated with functional independence and provides incremental prognostic value over ...

Circumstantial Evidence for a Critical Behavior in Peripheral Au + Au Collisions at 35 MeV/nucleon

open access: yes, 1995
The fragmentation resulting from peripheral Au + Au collisions at an incident energy of E = 35 MeV/nucleon is investigated. A power-law charge distribution, $A^{-\tau}$ with $\tau \approx 2.2$, and an intermittency signal are observed for events selected

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Supplementary Materials for Structured illumination microscopy artifacts caused by illumination scattering

open access: yes, 2021
Despite its wide application in live-cell super-resolution (SR) imaging, structured illumination microscopy (SIM) suffers from aberrations caused by various sources. Although artefacts generated from inaccurate reconstruction parameter estimation and noise amplification can be minimized, aberrations due to the scattering of excitation light on samples ...
