Guiding AlphaFold to predict how Munc13‐1 opens Syntaxin‐1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The syntaxin‐1 Habc‐domain (orange), linker (pink) and SNARE motif (yellow) form a closed conformation that binds to Munc18‐1 (violet) and is opened by the Munc13‐1 MUN domain (cyan) to form the SNARE complex that triggers neurotransmitter release.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Recurrent multiterritorial ischemic stroke with persistent moderate hypereosinophilia: A case report with focused literature review

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research
Persistent hypereosinophilia may be overlooked during stroke evaluation when conventional vascular risks coexist. We report the case of a man in his late 50s who had hypertension, type 2 diabetes, continued active smoking, and eight clinically apparent ...

Hybrid Artificial Cells

open access: yesASAIO Journal, 1992
In 1965, the use of artificial cells for the microencapsulation of living cells was demonstrated. At that time, this technique was also proposed for use in immunoisolation of endocrine cells, islets, and hepatocytes as hybrid artificial organs.

MagmaFlow: A desktop platform for artificial intelligence‐driven expression analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
MagmaFlow is a free, no‐code platform for gene expression analysis. It generates interactive volcano plots, links genes to literature, pathways, and diseases, prioritizes candidates using millions of publications, identifies affected biological processes, builds network diagrams, and exports publication‐ready figures and reports for macOS and Windows ...

Expression and Significance of MicroRNA-183 in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2013
Objective. In our previous study, we found that some miRNAs were deregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), including miR-183. However, the expression of miR-183 in the progression of benign liver diseases to HCC and its correlation with ...

Directed Evolution of an Artificial Cell Lineage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Biological development is a complex process that mediates between genotypes, to which mutations occur, and phenotypes, on which selection acts. Properties of development can therefore have considerable impact on evolution. However, in many existing simulation models of development, the developmental process itself is difficult to recover and/or analyse.

A Category Theoretical Argument Against the Possibility of Artificial Life [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
One of Robert Rosen's main contributions to the scientific community is summarized in his book 'Life itself'. There Rosen presents a theoretical framework to define living systems; given this definition, he goes on to show that living systems are not ...

Exploring the influence of lactoferrin on wound healing and related signaling pathways: a systematic review

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Lactoferrin promotes wound healing by activating MAPK, PI3K/Akt, and extracellular matrix pathways, enhancing fibroblast remodeling, proliferation, and re‐epithelialization. These mechanisms highlight its therapeutic potential in inflammation control, tissue repair, and remodeling.
