GENETIC CHANGES WITH GENERATIONS OF ARTIFICIAL SELECTION [PDF]

open access: yesGenetics, 1980
ABSTRACT Using conditional probabilities and moment-generating matrices, I derived approximate algebraic equations that give expectations of gene frequency, population mean, gene frequency variance within lines, or heterozygosity, and gene frequency variance between lines, or drift, for repeated cycles of recurrent selection in ...

NFDI MatWerk Ontology (MWO): A BFO‐Compliant Ontology for Research Data Management in Materials Science and Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the NFDI‐MatWerk Ontology (MWO), a Basic Formal Ontology‐based framework for interoperable research data management in materials science and engineering (MSE). Covering consortium structures, research data management resources, services, and instruments, MWO enables semantic integration, Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and ...

Enhancing Strength and Electrical Conductivity in Al–Zr–Sc Conductor Alloys Through Sn and Sr Microalloying and Two‐Step Aging Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Trace additions of Sn and Sr combined with a two‐step aging treatment are shown to enhance the microstructure and performance of Al–Zr–Sc conductor alloys. Strength and electrical conductivity increase concurrently through accelerated precipitation of fine Al3(Sc, Zr) precipitates and improved dislocation resistance, offering a cost‐effective pathway ...

Harnessing Phenotypic Plasticity to Improve Maize Yields

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2018
Plants can produce different phenotypes when exposed to different environments. Understanding the genetic basis of these plastic responses is crucial for crop breeding efforts. We discuss two recent studies that suggest that yield plasticity in maize has

Investigation of Oxygen‐Free Wetting Behavior of Aluminum on Copper via Molecular Dynamics Simulations and Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The wettability of aluminum droplets (Al) on different copper substrates (Cu), where liquid Al spreads on solid Cu surfaces to form a liquid–solid interface, is studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental and numerical results show good agreement in the fast‐spreading regime.

A Knowledge‐Based Approach for Understanding and Managing Additive Manufacturing Data

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing processes generate a large amount of data. Effectively managing, understanding, and retrieving information from this data remains a major challenge. Therefore, we propose an ontology‐based approach to integrate heterogeneous data, enable semantic queries, and support decision‐making.

Genomic Signatures of Domestication in European Seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax L.) Reveal a Potential Role for Epigenetic Regulation in Adaptation to Captivity

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Genome scans provide a comprehensive method to explore genome‐wide variation associated with traits under study. However, linking individual genes to broader functional groupings and pathways is often challenging, yet crucial for understanding the ...

Abundant empirical evidence of multilevel selection revealed by a bibliometric review

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution
Natural selection is based on the concept of differential reproduction between entities, often characterized as a struggle between individual organisms.
