The plaster cast of the two over-life-size reclining females from the Parthenon pediment lay in two huge abstract pieces. What struck me was the coincidence. The cast, which is two of the group known as the Three Fates, had cracked in half. The fracture had been caused by the stress created by the contraposta design.
