Index to Ascending Cadence Gestures, Update 2022

open access: yes, 2022
This file is a second update to an index first published in January 2019, then expanded in March 2020. It is a list of all compositions with ascending or upper-register cadence gestures, as mentioned in my article The Ascending Urlinie (1987), in essays ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Isolated ascending aorta dilatation is associated with increased risk of abdominal aortic aneurysm

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2021
Background Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is an asymptomatic condition characterized by progressive dilatation of the aorta. The purpose of this study is to identify important 2D-TTE aortic indices associated with AAA as predictive tools for undiagnosed

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Endovascular repair of ascending aortic pathologies in patients unfit for open surgery: case series and literature review

open access: yesJournal of Vascular Surgery Cases and Innovative Techniques
The number of vascular centers performing endovascular repair of ascending aortic disease is constantly increasing. Accordingly to the guidelines, open surgical repair remains the gold standard for these pathologies. However, approximately one quarter of

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

The correlation between carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity and composition of the aortic media in CAD patients with or without hypertension

open access: yesSwiss Medical Weekly, 2012
OBJECTIVES: To investigate the influence of hypertension on large artery elasticity and the microstructure of the ascending aortic media in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD), and the association between arterial compliance and composition ...

The ascending aortic aneurysm: When to intervene?

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cardiology: Heart & Vasculature, 2015
Background Thoracic ascending aorta aneurysms (TAA) are an important cause of mortality in adults but are a relatively less studied subject compared to abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA). The purpose of this review is to explain the main aspects (etiology,

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...
