Ascorbate-Glutathione Cycle Alteration in Cadmium Sensitive Rice Mutant cadB-1

open access: yesRice Science, 2012
A rice cadmium (Cd) sensitive mutant cadB-1 was obtained using Agrobacterium tumefaciens mediated system. After exposure of cadB-1 and wild type (WT) rice seedlings to a range of Cd concentrations for 10 d, Cd accumulated to higher levels in roots, stems and leaves of both cadB-1 and WT with increasing external Cd concentrations, and the inhibition of ...

The Circadian Oscillator Affects Both Glutathione Homeostasis and Its Response to Salt Stress in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Glutathione, including reduced glutathione (GSH) and oxidized glutathione (GSSG), is the major non‐protein thiol‐based redox buffer. There are diurnal rhythms in total glutathione level and in this work, we investigate whether these oscillations might be indicative of circadian regulation of total glutathione homeostasis.

Exogenous salicylic acid enhances wheat drought tolerance by influence on the expression of genes related to ascorbate-glutathione cycle

open access: yesBiologia Plantarum, 2013
Treatment with 0.5 mM salicylic acid (SA) significantly alleviated growth inhibition induced by drought in wheat seedlings, manifested by less decreassed fresh mass, dry mass, plant height, root length, and less increased lipid peroxidation.

Involvement of Ascorbate-Glutathione Cycle in Senescence of Stored Broccoli (Brassica oleracea L.).

open access: yesEngei Gakkai zasshi, 2001
Changes in reducing substances and enzymes involved in the ascorbate-glutathione cycle were determined in senescing broccoli (Brassica oleracea L.). Levels of L-ascorbic acid and reduced glutathione decreased greatly in senescing of broccoli during storage at 15°C, whereas the NADPH content increased gradually.

DNA Methylation Shapes Seed‐Borne Microbiome and Proteome Responses During Early Maize‐Beneficial Bacteria Interactions

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Microorganism and plant interactions are crucial for development and environmental adaptation. Plant growth promoting bacteria enhance agricultural productivity in a sustainable manner, while epigenetic modifications such as DNA methylation regulate gene expression and adaptive responses.

Glutathione and Ascorbic Acid Accumulation in Mango Pulp Under Enhanced UV-B Based on Transcriptome

open access: yesAntioxidants
Mango (Mangifera indica), a nutritionally rich tropical fruit, is significantly impacted by UV-B radiation, which induces oxidative stress and disrupts physiological processes.

Long‐Term Salt Exposure Reprograms the Nicotiana tabacum BY‐2 Suspension Proteome and Metabolome Toward Stabilization of the Core Metabolic Pathways, Protein Turnover Machinery Modifications, and Protective Metabolome Adjustments

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this study, we analyzed a unique Nicotiana tabacum BY‐2 line that was gradually adapted to and subsequently maintained in 190 mM NaCl for over 15 years. Years of continuous high salinity shaped a stable “new homeostasis” in BY‐2 suspension cells. Salt‐adapted cells were smaller and formed tighter clusters. Metabolomics revealed constitutive

Effect of cerium (Ce) on the redox states of ascorbate and glutathione through ascorbate-glutathione cycle in the roots of maize seedlings under salt stress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This study investigated the effect of cerium (Ce) on the ascorbate-glutathione (AsAGSH) cycle in the roots of maize seedlings under salt stress. The results showed that salt stress significantly increased the activities of ascorbate peroxidase (APX) and ...

Molecular Chaperone Networks in Plants: Maintaining Proteostasis and Enhancing Stress Resilience for Crop Improvement

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Molecular chaperones play a central role in the plant proteostasis machinery by aiding the folding of nascent proteins, preventing aggregation, and repairing or degrading damaged proteins. These functions are especially essential during abiotic and biotic stress, which can destabilise cellular proteins and disrupt metabolic homoeostasis.
