Disruption of mc1r Disturbs Skin Pigmentation in Xenopus tropicalis

open access: yesPigment Cell &Melanoma Research, Volume 38, Issue 4, July 2025.
ABSTRACT The melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R) is well‐established as a pivotal regulator of pigmentation in various species. Despite a wealth of research focused on mammals and fish, the role of Mc1r in amphibians has remained largely unexplored. This study was designed to elucidate the contribution of Mc1r in Xenopus tropicalis.

Influence of reference genes on expression of TYR, MITF and ASIP genes in tissues of Silky Fowl

open access: yes浙江大学学报. 农业与生命科学版, 2015
Silky Fowl is a precious local breed containing a large amount of melanin. Therefore, it is considered to have high edible and medicinal value. Study on the related gene expression is helpful to reveal the internal regulation mechanism of melanin ...

The Role of Two Tyrosinase‐Like Glycoenzymes in Defining the Final Hue of Parrot Plumage

open access: yesPigment Cell &Melanoma Research, Volume 38, Issue 3, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Recent advances in avian melanogenesis have pinpointed multiple genetic loci associated with color polymorphisms, predominantly in the plumage of chickens, quails, and pigeons. However, the genetic basis of melaninization in parrot plumage remains elusive.

Pan-Arctic sea ice concentration from SAR and passive microwave [PDF]

open access: yesThe Cryosphere
Arctic sea ice monitoring is a fundamental prerequisite for anticipating and mitigating the impacts of climate change. Satellite-based sea ice observations have been subject to intense attention over the last few decades, with passive microwave (PMW ...

Associations between sun sensitive pigmentary genes and serum prostate specific antigen levels. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Melanoma and prostate cancer may share risk factors. This study examined the association between serum PSA levels, which is a risk factor for prostate cancer, and variants in some melanoma-associated pigmentary genes. We studied participants, all aged 70+

Assessment of the Influence of UVR in Cutaneous Melanoma

open access: yesPhotodermatology, Photoimmunology &Photomedicine, Volume 41, Issue 3, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Although a role for ultraviolet radiation (UVR) in cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM) development is accepted, there is debate over the magnitude and mechanisms given its association with intermittent but not chronic exposure. Objectives To assess new ideas and data on the subject, review some debated topics, bringing a molecular ...

Evolutionary History and Climatic Correlates of Hypermelanism in Viperidae

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 4, April 2025.
We performed a two‐step analysis on the occurrence of melanism in Viperidae: Firstly, Ancestral State Reconstruction was performed so that the non‐melanic state was estimated as the most probable at the root of the vipers' phylogenetic tree; secondly, we tested the Thermal Melanism Hypothesis on the spatial occurrence of melanism in this snake family ...

First documented observation of differential dorsoventral coat colouration in wild boar Sus scrofa (Artyodactyla: Suidae) in Italy

open access: yesNatural History Sciences
Wild boar Sus scrofa usually shows a uniform brown coat, but different colour patterns have been observed with red, brown, black, and white morphs. Nevertheless, coat colour polymorphism is often associated with hybridization with domestic pigs.

Non-Smooth Stochastic Lyapunov Functions With Weak Extension of Viscosity Solutions

open access: yes, 2019
This paper proposes a notion of viscosity weak supersolutions to build a bridge between stochastic Lyapunov stability theory and viscosity solution theory.

Storms, Sea Ice, and Microseismic Noise in Alaska

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 130, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract Using 155 distributed seismic stations spanning Alaska and western Canada, we document how environmental factors like storms and sea ice influence microseismic noise. We examine power spectral densities of continuous seismic data and focus on secondary microseisms (5–10 s) and short period secondary microseisms (1–2 s) from 2018 to 2021.
