On the interpretation of tense in temporal adverbial clauses

open access: yesGlossa, 2021
Tenses in English temporal adjunct clauses seem to show properties of both matrix and embedded tenses. On the one hand, they are often argued to be interpreted with respect to the time of utterance (Stump 1985; Arregui & Kusumoto 1998; Kubota et al ...

Spontaneous parity breaking of graphene in the quantum Hall regime

open access: yes, 2006
We propose that the inversion symmetry of the graphene honeycomb lattice is spontaneously broken via a magnetic field dependent Peierls distortion. This leads to valley splitting of the $n=0$ Landau level but not of the other Landau levels.

Solving the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen puzzle: the origin of non-locality in Aspect-type experiments

open access: yes, 2012
So far no mechanism is known, which could connect the two measurements in an Aspect-type experiment. Here, we suggest such a mechanism, based on the phase of a photon's field during propagation.

Guided Quasicontinuous Atom Laser [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We report the first realization of a guided quasicontinuous atom laser by rf outcoupling a Bose-Einstein condensate from a hybrid optomagnetic trap into a horizontal atomic waveguide. This configuration allows us to cancel the acceleration due to gravity
