Is there an ideal way to initiate antiplatelet therapy with aspirin? A crossover study on healthy volunteers evaluating different dosing schemes with whole blood aggregometry

open access: yesBMC Research Notes, 2011
Background Guidelines recommend an early initiation of aspirin treatment in patients with acute cerebral ischemia. Comparative studies on the best starting dose for initiating aspirin therapy to achieve a rapid antiplatelet effect do not exist.

2H-NMR studies of supercooled and glassy aspirin [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Non-Crystalline Solids, 353, 3788 (2007), 2007
Acetyl salicylic acid, deuterated at the methyl group, was investigated using 2H-NMR in its supercooled and glassy states. Just above the glass transition temperature the molecular reorientations were studied using stimulated-echo spectroscopy and demonstrated a large degree of similarity with other glass formers.

Drug repurposing for COVID-19 using graph neural network and harmonizing multiple evidence [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep 11, 23179 (2021), 2020
Amid the pandemic of 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infected by SARS-CoV-2, a vast amount of drug research for prevention and treatment has been quickly conducted, but these efforts have been unsuccessful thus far. Our objective is to prioritize repurposable drugs using a drug repurposing pipeline that systematically integrates multiple SARS-

Cognitive Impairment and Age-Related Vision Disorders: Their Possible Relationship and the Evaluation of the Use of Aspirin and Statins in a 65 Years-and-Over Sardinian Population [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Neurological disorders (Alzheimer’s disease, vascular and mixed dementia) and visual loss (cataract, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy) are among the most common conditions that afflict people of at least 65 years of ...

Polypill with or without Aspirin in Persons without Cardiovascular Disease.

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2020
BACKGROUND A polypill comprising statins, multiple blood-pressure-lowering drugs, and aspirin has been proposed to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Effect of aspirin in "aspirin sensitive" patients. [PDF]

open access: yesBMJ, 1984
Eighteen patients with a history of urticaria or asthma, or both, induced by aspirin were studied before and after provocation of symptoms with aspirin. The plasma prostaglandin F2 alpha concentration, which was characteristically raised before challenge, fell significantly at the time of adverse reactions.

Excited state dynamics of some nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs: a surface-hopping investigation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Here we present a computational investigation of the excited state dynamics of 5 different active medical substances (aspirin, ibuprofen, carprofen, suprofen, indomethacin) which belong to the family of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The nonadiabatic dynamics simulations were performed using the surface hopping method, with electronic ...

The encapsulation of hydrophobic drugs in Pluronic F127 micelles: the effects of drug hydrophobicity, solution temperature and pH [PDF]

open access: yesLangmuir, 29, 4350 (2013), 2014
Three drugs, Ibuprofen, Aspirin and Erythromycin, are encapsulated in spherical Pluronic F127 micelles. The shapes and the size distributions of the micelles in dilute, aqueous solutions, with and without drugs, are ascertained using cryo- Scanning Electron Microscopy and Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) experiments, respectively. Uptake of drugs above a

Aspirin for prophylactic use in the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease and cancer : a systematic review and overview of reviews [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: Prophylactic aspirin has been considered to be beneficial in reducing the risks of heart disease and cancer. However, potential benefits must be balanced against the possible harm from side effects, such as bleeding and gastrointestinal (GI ...

Aspirin and Stroke

open access: yesArchives of Neurology, 1990
In our recent article, 1 we reviewed the available evidence on aspirin and other antiplatelet agents in the secondary and primary prevention of cardiovascular disease. We concluded that low-dose aspirin should be a possible adjunct, not an alternative, to coronary risk factor management and, in view of its possible side effects, should be prescribed ...
